Create a stream in YouTube Studio, use its current server URL and secret stream key, and run FFmpeg with YouTube-compatible settings. The command below is a practical starting point—not a guarantee of uninterrupted service: your PC, power, internet connection and YouTube ingest all need to remain available.
The technical workflow is the same in India as elsewhere according to the official YouTube and FFmpeg guidance reviewed here; it does not establish a separate India-specific requirement or availability rule. Check eligibility in your own Studio account and test the actual internet connection you will use.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s getting-started guidance lists these as live-streaming eligibility requirements; check the status in YouTube Studio.
- A Windows PC with FFmpeg installed, a video file you have the right to stream, and a stable internet connection with enough sustained upload capacity.
- A stream created or scheduled in YouTube Studio, so you can copy its current server URL and stream key.
There is no universal minimum PC specification established for this workflow. The load depends on the input, output settings and whether FFmpeg must encode video or can copy a compatible stream. Start with a test on the machine and connection you will actually use.
Install FFmpeg on Windows
FFmpeg’s project distributes source code and points Windows users to builds from gyan.dev and BtbN; those builds are linked by the project, but are not executables directly distributed by FFmpeg itself. Choose a Windows build from a source you trust, extract it, and make the folder containing ffmpeg.exe available in your PATH, or run commands from that folder. Open Command Prompt and check that ffmpeg -version prints version information.

Create the YouTube stream and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, open Create and choose Go live to enter Live Control Room. Create a new stream or schedule one.
- In the stream’s settings, copy the server URL and stream key shown for that configuration. Use the current values displayed there rather than a URL or key copied from an old setup.
- Treat the key as a password. Do not put it in a public script, screenshot, repository or chat. YouTube describes stream keys as the password and address for a stream; reset the key in Live Control Room if it is exposed, then update FFmpeg.
- Keep Live Control Room open. Once FFmpeg connects, inspect the preview and stream health there. Depending on the event setup, you may need to click Go live in the control room after the preview appears.
Choose settings that match your file and connection
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 as ingest video codecs, with up to 60 fps. For a broadly usable FFmpeg RTMP/RTMPS baseline, the example below encodes H.264 video and AAC audio. YouTube recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval (not exceeding four seconds); for RTMP/RTMPS its listed audio choices include AAC or MP3.

These are YouTube’s listed recommendations, not a promise that a particular Indian ISP or home connection can sustain them. YouTube advises leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. Measure outbound speed on the actual connection and allow capacity for other household or office traffic. If your upload fluctuates, lower resolution, frame rate or bitrate before you start rather than relying on a bitrate at the edge of your connection’s capacity.

Run a looping file with FFmpeg
FFmpeg documents sending a file in real time to an RTMP server with -re and FLV output. That basic example sends one file; it does not, by itself, make it repeat. The following Windows Command Prompt example adds FFmpeg’s input loop option so the file repeats until you stop the process. It scales output to 1920×1080, encodes H.264 at 30 fps and 10 Mbps, sets a two-second GOP, and encodes AAC audio.
Replace the sample input filename, server URL and key with your own. Put the URL and key together in the output address as instructed for the selected YouTube stream configuration—commonly the server URL followed by a slash and the key. Do not publish a real key.

Adjust the example to your source
- Resolution and frame rate: The filter outputs 1080p and
-r 30sets 30 fps. If the source is 720p or your upload cannot sustain 1080p, change the scale/pad dimensions and use the matching 720p bitrate target. Do not upscale expecting more detail. - Bitrate: The 10 Mbps values are for the 1080p30 example. For a different target, set
-b:v,-minrateand-maxrateconsistently to its selected video bitrate, and keep sufficient upload headroom. YouTube’s recommended bitrate table is guidance, not your measured capacity. - Keyframes: At 30 fps,
-g 60and-keyint_min 60set a 60-frame, two-second interval; at 60 fps, use 120 frames for two seconds. YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. - Audio: The example encodes AAC at 128 kbps. If the source has no audio stream, this command may fail because there is no audio input; remove the audio options or add a suitable silent audio source. If the source audio is incompatible, encoding it as AAC avoids relying on direct audio copying.
- Aspect ratio: The scale-and-pad filter preserves the source aspect ratio and adds bars if needed. If you prefer to crop, change the filter deliberately and preview the result before broadcasting.
To use another input, change documentary.mp4. The -stream_loop -1 option requests endless input looping, while -re reads the file at its intended rate instead of sending it as fast as possible. This is a looping command, not a tested guarantee of reconnect behavior: if the network or YouTube ingest disconnects, FFmpeg may exit or fail to resume. Watch its console output and Live Control Room; restart or reconfigure the encoder if it does not reconnect.

Test, start and monitor the broadcast
- Run a private/unlisted test or another low-risk test event first. Start the encoder ahead of the scheduled start time, as YouTube advises.
- Wait for the incoming feed and inspect the Live Control Room preview for picture, sound, aspect ratio and delay. Confirm the intended watch page is accessible to its audience.
- Use YouTube’s control-room action to start the event if the setup requires it. Keep an eye on stream health and FFmpeg’s console output rather than assuming that a running command means viewers are receiving a healthy stream.
- During a long broadcast, monitor the PC, network and power. An Ethernet connection and a UPS for the PC/router may reduce some local interruptions, but neither is a requirement nor a guarantee of uptime.
- When finished, end the stream using YouTube’s controls as appropriate, then stop FFmpeg with
Ctrl+C.
Limits of a continuous stream and its archive
A looping input can keep feeding the encoder, but it does not make a single YouTube session permanent or ensure uninterrupted delivery. YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume that one session longer than 12 hours will be archived. If you need a replay, plan a separate recording or shorter sessions and verify the archive in Studio.
Continuous playback also does not grant rights to the video or soundtrack. Use material you own or are licensed to stream, and check YouTube’s copyright and monetization rules for your channel and content. Repeated prerecorded footage may also raise reused-content or monetization questions; a technically valid feed is not by itself evidence that a channel qualifies for monetization.

Troubleshooting
