You can earn from a 24/7 YouTube music livestream through Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium revenue if your channel qualifies for the relevant YouTube Partner Program (YPP) tier and accepts the Watch Page Monetization Module. Channel memberships are a separate recurring-revenue option with their own eligibility and Commerce Product Module requirements. Neither continuous airtime nor a high share of revenue guarantees that ads will serve, that YouTube will approve a channel, or that the stream will earn a particular amount.
What monetization a 24/7 music stream can use
A continuous livestream does not get a special monetization exemption. The same core distinctions apply as for other eligible YouTube content: Watch Page advertising and YouTube Premium revenue require the appropriate YPP access and module; memberships and other fan-funding features have separate requirements. YouTube also reviews whether a channel meets its monetization policies, independently of whether the creator has permission to use the music.
- Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium: These require the Watch Page Monetization Module and the higher YPP feature tier for ad revenue.
- Channel memberships: Fans pay a recurring monthly amount in exchange for creator-defined perks. Memberships require the applicable fan-funding eligibility and Commerce Product Module.
- Other possible revenue: Depending on channel and regional eligibility, YouTube lists features such as Super Chat, Super Stickers, Shopping and brand partnerships. YouTube Premium revenue may also apply to eligible content. Treat these as optional; their availability and contribution vary, and a quiet music stream may not generate meaningful chat funding.
Check YPP eligibility and activate the right modules
YouTube’s published YPP overview lists an initial feature tier at 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the past 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours on long-form videos in the past 365 days or 3 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days. The higher tier for Watch Page ads lists 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in 365 days or 10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days. These are published thresholds, not a guarantee of acceptance: region, policy compliance, account status and review also matter. Requirements and feature availability can change, so use the channel’s current Earn tab in YouTube Studio as the operational check.
- Open YouTube Studio and select Earn. Review the eligibility and feature status shown for your channel and country.
- Apply to YPP when eligible. Reaching a subscriber or watch-hours threshold alone does not activate monetization; YouTube still reviews the channel and its policy compliance.
- Accept the Watch Page Monetization Module if you want eligible long-form and live content to earn Watch Page ad and YouTube Premium revenue.
- Accept the Commerce Product Module separately if you want to use memberships or eligible fan-funding features. Do not assume the Watch Page module turns these on.
- Enable the features available to your channel in Studio. Check the current regional and account requirements before designing a revenue plan around a particular feature.
Choose live ad settings without undermining listening
When monetization is enabled for a livestream, YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are automatically enabled. Mid-rolls can be automatic, scheduled or manual. The right choice for a music channel is a trade-off between potential ad opportunities, control over timing and the continuity listeners expect; no setting is best for every stream.

For a long listening session, consider whether a placement will land in the middle of a song or another uninterrupted passage. Monitor retention and viewer response after enabling ads and adjust the approach rather than assuming one interval suits every audience. YouTube says viewers may receive ads at different times, and an ad opportunity does not guarantee an ad will be served.
YouTube Help reports that creators who chose live automatic mid-rolls saw, on average, over 20% uplift in instream ad revenue per hour. The comparison was between channels with automatic live mid-rolls enabled and channels without them, averaged across 207 countries in January 2024. This is a platform-reported historical average, not proof that automatic placement caused an increase for any particular channel and not an income forecast for a 24/7 music stream.

If you embed the livestream on an external website with autoplay, YouTube says ads are turned off for that livestream. Factor this in before using an autoplay embed as the primary listening experience.
Build memberships around real music-community value
A membership is a monthly payment for perks you define; it is not a guaranteed substitute for ad revenue. YouTube identifies badges and emoji among possible benefits. Other ideas for a music audience might include member posts or genuinely distinct member-only community or listening experiences, provided the feature is available and the promised benefit is practical for you to maintain.

- Make each perk specific: explain what members receive and how often, if it recurs.
- Choose benefits you can deliver consistently, rather than promising access or content you cannot sustain.
- Keep the public stream worthwhile for non-members. Membership is a complement to the broadcast, not a requirement for enjoying it.
- Check Studio’s current membership options and eligibility before announcing a perk; feature availability can differ by region and channel.
YouTube’s live-ad guidance says automatic mid-roll controls can limit disruption for channel members. That does not mean every member experience is ad-free or that all ad interruptions are eliminated.
Clear the rights for the music and the archive
Before broadcasting, confirm that your rights cover the actual use. YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the creator to have the necessary rights to exploit live content on Google services, explicitly including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public-performance licenses) and other royalty participants. A license for a recording or ordinary video use should not be assumed to cover a monetized, continuous livestream.

Review the written terms for each track and recording, including:
- Composition and sound recording: Confirm the permissions cover both the underlying song and the particular recording being played, where applicable.
- Use type: Confirm permission for a live broadcast, monetization and any replay or archived version—not only use in a conventional video.
- Territory and duration: Check where the rights apply and how long they last, especially for a stream intended to run continuously.
- Content ID handling: Ask whether the rights holder must allowlist your channel to prevent live interruptions, and retain written confirmation if required.
- Archive rights: Verify that the same permissions cover the saved livestream and any later availability or monetization.
YouTube scans livestreams for third-party material. It may warn the creator, replace the stream with a placeholder, temporarily interrupt it or terminate it. YouTube says even licensed material can be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. A claim on an archived live stream may also appear after the broadcast ends. Creator Music is not a general-purpose license for continuous broadcasts: YouTube describes its licensed or revenue-sharing tracks as usable in long-form videos, not livestreams.

Copyright permission and YPP originality are separate checks
Having a valid music license does not establish that a channel meets YouTube’s monetization policies. YouTube’s originality policy also applies to livestreams and expects original, authentic content; repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible. For a 24/7 format, make the channel’s authorship and meaningful creative contribution clear where accurate—for example, through original compositions, live performance, substantive curation, distinctive visuals or creator participation. None of these approaches guarantees approval, and permission to use a track does not by itself resolve an originality review.
Understand revenue shares without treating them as an earnings estimate
YouTube’s Partner earnings overview documents a 55% share of net Watch Page ad revenue for eligible public videos on the content Watch Page under the relevant terms. It documents 70% of net revenue for channel memberships and specified fan-funding features, including Super Chat, Super Stickers and Super Thanks, under their applicable modules. These percentages describe revenue shares, not the amount advertisers will spend, the number of ads that will fill, or what a particular channel will receive.
YouTube states there are no guarantees under the YouTube Partner Agreement about how much or whether a creator will be paid. The official figures above do not establish a typical income, RPM or membership conversion rate for a particular audience, genre, country or stream duration. Estimate your own results from actual Studio analytics and expenses once the channel is operating; do not multiply stream hours by an assumed ad rate.
Keep the broadcast running while you work on monetization
Monetization settings do not themselves keep a livestream online. If your chosen method depends on a computer or encoder at home, the broadcast depends on that device, its power and its internet connection. For music broadcasts, verify that the playback source, stream settings and any restart process remain reliable; a technical interruption and an ad interruption are different problems.
