To create a bhajan livestream in OBS, add a looping bhajan file or playlist, place an OBS Text Source containing the lyrics above the media, then connect OBS to a YouTube encoder stream using its server URL and stream key. A computer running OBS can keep the stream going, but YouTube’s archive and DVR features may be limited for streams longer than 12 hours, so plan managed session handoffs and a local recording if you need a complete archive.
Before you build the scene: prepare the bhajan and clear the rights
Choose the audio or video recording you plan to stream and prepare the corresponding lyric text. You need rights to use both the particular recording and the underlying composition. A bhajan’s devotional or traditional character, or the fact that a recording is publicly available, does not by itself establish that you may livestream it.
YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for the live content, including music licensing rights. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party material; a detection can result in a placeholder, interruption, or termination. If you have licensed material but Content ID identifies it, ask the rights holder about allowlisting your channel. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and guidance on copyright issues with live streams before broadcasting.
Build the OBS scene
Choose one file or a playlist
For a single bhajan file, add an OBS Media Source and enable Loop in its source settings. For multiple items, add VLC Video and enable Loop Playlist. VLC Video requires VLC to be installed; OBS documents that 64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC. See OBS’s Media Sources guide for the available options.

Add lyrics as a text overlay
Add a Text Source and either enter the lyrics directly or enable Read from file to use a text file. Select a legible font, size, color, and alignment. An outline or background treatment can help the words remain readable over changing video; use custom extents if needed to control the text area. OBS uses Text (GDI+) on Windows and Text (Freetype 2) on macOS and Linux. The OBS Text Sources guide explains the platform-specific source options.
Put the lyrics in front and check readability
In OBS’s Sources list, put the Text Source above the background or bhajan source. Sources higher in the list render above sources below them. Resize and position the lyric text, then inspect the scene preview to check that the words are legible against the background and do not cover important visual content. Connect OBS to YouTube
- Create the encoder stream in YouTube: Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using the encoder workflow. Follow YouTube’s current setup steps in its guide to creating a live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the connection details: Copy the server URL and stream key provided for that stream into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key as a secret: it is the credential the encoder uses to send your feed. Do not share it publicly.
- Check before going live: Start the encoder feed and review the YouTube preview. Confirm the lyrics are visible, the bhajan audio is audible, and the video looks right before starting the public broadcast.
Run and monitor the stream
A 24/7 channel is not automatically a single uninterrupted session or a guaranteed archive. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR, which lets viewers pause or rewind a live stream, may also be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. Treat this as an archive and DVR caveat, not a guaranteed hard cutoff for the broadcast itself. YouTube’s archive guidance and DVR guidance describe these limits.
Plan for managed live sessions and a handoff or restart rather than relying on one very long stream to produce a complete replay. The cited YouTube guidance does not prescribe a restart interval or a guaranteed automatic-restart setup. If keeping a complete copy matters, record locally as a backup. While the stream is running, YouTube recommends checking the preview, viewing the channel and watch pages on more than one device, monitoring audio and video quality, and checking that a local archive file is growing. It also recommends testing encoder failover if you have a backup encoder. These checks help you spot problems; they do not guarantee uninterrupted streaming. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The lyrics are hidden behind the video: Move the Text Source above the media or background source in the Sources list, then check the preview.
- The playlist does not play or loop: Confirm you added VLC Video rather than a single-file Media Source, that VLC is installed, and that the playlist loop option is enabled. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- The text is unreadable or missing: Check that the Text Source contains the intended text or points to the correct text file, and adjust its font, color, placement, or background treatment. Text source options differ by operating system.
- YouTube flags the live feed or interrupts it: Review the rights for both the recording and composition. If the content is licensed, contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting for your channel; a license does not guarantee that automated detection will not occur.
- The stream has no complete replay: Check its duration. YouTube may not capture an archive for a stream exceeding 12 hours, and DVR may be limited or unavailable beyond that point. Use managed sessions and a local recording backup if a complete archive is important.
