In OBS Studio, open Settings → Advanced, enable Automatically Reconnect, then choose a positive Retry Delay and a Maximum Retries count. Retry Delay is the initial wait, not a fixed interval: OBS doubles the wait after each retry. No official OBS or YouTube guidance sets one ideal value for Indian broadband, so test recovery on your own connection and address the cause of drops rather than relying on retries alone.
Set OBS to retry a dropped stream
- In OBS Studio, open Settings → Advanced.
- Find Automatically Reconnect and enable it.
- Enter a positive value for Retry Delay and set Maximum Retries to the number of attempts you are willing to allow. The delay is the starting wait; OBS doubles the wait on each subsequent retry. A retry count of zero disables reconnecting. The exact controls and behavior are documented in the OBS Studio 33.0.0 Output API Reference: OBS Output API Reference.
- Test the settings with your actual stream setup and observe how long recovery takes. Do not assume that the retry delay is the interval between every attempt or that a chosen value is an official recommendation.
For a long unattended loop, the retry count is a finite limit, not a guarantee that OBS will keep trying indefinitely. Choose it with the likely interruption window and your tolerance for a prolonged outage in mind.
Make the connection more likely to stay up
Check upload capacity and leave headroom
Measure outbound upload capacity, not only download speed. YouTube’s current Streaming tips recommend leaving 20% bandwidth headroom. The primary stream, any backup stream, and that headroom need to fit within available outbound capacity. This is general YouTube guidance, not a measurement or reliability claim about Indian broadband.
Set OBS’s output bitrate to a level your connection can sustain consistently. YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate guidance provides recommended ranges by codec, resolution, and frame rate; use the row for your actual output rather than treating one bitrate as universal. YouTube also recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health while broadcasting.

Watch OBS output and dropped-frame status
OBS says dropped frames or intermittent disconnections indicate a network problem between your computer and the remote ingest server. An unstable connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain can cause them. Reconnect settings help OBS retry an output; they do not repair the underlying link. Try Ethernet if the computer is on Wi-Fi
OBS recommends a wired connection for streaming because Wi-Fi can be unstable. If both your router and computer have compatible Ethernet ports, test with a cable. A wired connection may avoid local Wi-Fi problems; it cannot restore an ISP outage or fix a problem at YouTube’s ingest end.

Check other common network causes
If interruptions continue, use OBS’s troubleshooting sequence: check bitrate stability, VPN or security-software interference, network-optimization utilities bundled with other software, drivers, and other network conditions. OBS notes that dynamic bitrate can reduce dropped frames when a connection cannot keep up, but it lowers quality and does not resolve the root cause.
What reconnect can—and cannot—recover
Automatic reconnect is an OBS output retry mechanism. It cannot restore broadband service that remains down, ensure a remote ingest server is reachable, or guarantee that YouTube keeps a broadcast active through every interruption. Treat it as one recovery measure alongside a stable connection, a sustainable bitrate, and active monitoring; OBS and YouTube do not publish a recommended retry-delay value for Indian connections.

Your YouTube stream key lets an encoder send a feed and should be kept private. If you suspect it has been compromised, reset it in YouTube Live Control Room and update the key in OBS. YouTube explains stream-key management in Manage live stream settings.
Choose settings by the trade-off you can accept
