To compare the monthly cost of streaming to YouTube from a PC with a cloud option in India, calculate the PC’s added electricity cost from its measured average wall draw, monthly streaming hours and your applicable marginal tariff. Then price the exact cloud workload—including compute, runtime, storage, network charges and taxes—for the same hours and performance. There is no reliable one-size-fits-all rupee total: tariffs, PC loads and cloud services differ, and a remote cloud computer is not the same service as a managed video-delivery platform.
Calculate your PC’s monthly electricity cost
Use this estimate for the additional energy used while streaming:
Monthly PC electricity cost ≈ average wall draw in kW × monthly streaming hours × marginal electricity rate in ₹/kWh.
For the most useful result, measure the computer’s average draw at the wall while running the actual game or scene, encoder and stream settings you plan to use. A power supply’s wattage rating is its capacity, not a measurement of what the PC consumes. If you cannot measure it, use a clearly labelled estimate rather than treating the PSU rating as actual draw.

Fill in the three inputs
- Average wall draw: ___ W, measured during the intended streaming workload or explicitly estimated.
- Streaming hours per month: ___ hours.
- Applicable marginal energy rate: ₹___/kWh, from your current bill or tariff schedule, identifying your state, utility, consumer category and applicable slab.
Convert watts to kilowatts, then calculate energy and cost:
- PC energy per month (kWh) = (average wall draw in W ÷ 1,000) × monthly streaming hours.
- Estimated energy charge = monthly kWh × applicable marginal rate in ₹/kWh.
- Add only bill components that the added consumption actually affects. Do not automatically assign your entire household fixed charge to streaming.
For example, if you measure 300 W at the wall and stream for 200 hours, the PC uses an estimated 60 kWh during those hours: (300 ÷ 1,000) × 200. Multiply 60 kWh by the applicable marginal rate on your bill to estimate the energy charge. This illustration is arithmetic, not a typical PC draw or a quoted Indian tariff.
Use the tariff that applies to your household
There is no single all-India household electricity rate to use for this calculation. Tariffs vary by location, consumer category and usage slab; state governments may also subsidize eligible consumers. The Ministry of Power says retail tariffs are determined by the appropriate electricity regulatory commissions. Use your current utility bill and tariff schedule, not a national average, and consider whether the extra load changes the slab or another bill component. See the Central Electricity Authority’s March 2026 tariff compilation as a location- and category-specific reference, then check current local orders and your own bill.

For one illustration of why the slab matters, that CEA report lists Chandigarh domestic energy charges of 275 paise/kWh for 0–150 kWh/month and 480 paise/kWh for 151–400 kWh/month, along with a ₹30/kW/month fixed charge, under a tariff stated as effective 1 August 2024. Those figures are not a current universal rate or a personalized estimate; verify the tariff applying to your connection.
Check that the PC estimate describes a workable YouTube stream
Electricity cost only helps if the stream can be sent reliably at the chosen settings. YouTube’s live encoder guidance accessed in 2026 lists RTMP/RTMPS ingestion; H.264, H.265 and AV1; up to 60 fps; constant bitrate (CBR); AAC or MP3 audio; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not over four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted live ingestion. Its bitrate recommendations depend on resolution, frame rate and codec: for 1080p at 30 fps, the listed recommendation is 10 Mbps for AV1 or H.265 and 14 Mbps for H.264. Check the current table for your intended combination in YouTube’s live encoder settings.
Your upload connection needs capacity for the outgoing stream bitrate. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom, testing upload speed and using a reliable network. That matters to the comparison: a PC’s electricity estimate does not account for the cost or availability of a suitable home connection.

YouTube also automatically transcodes incoming live streams into different output formats for viewers. That viewer-side processing is distinct from a cloud service that hosts, packages and distributes a video to an audience. YouTube describes the transcoding process in its live-streaming documentation.
Define what “cloud fees” means before comparing
At least two different workloads are often called cloud streaming, and their costs are not interchangeable:

- Cloud PC or remote encoder: a rented remote machine runs the encoder and sends the live feed to YouTube. Price the machine and any required accelerator for the intended settings and runtime.
- Managed live video delivery: a service ingests, encodes or packages a stream and distributes it to viewers. Charges can depend on both processing and audience delivery.
An AWS guide’s example totals approximately $69.74 for a one-hour 540p live event with approximately 1,000 viewers, including encoding/packaging and distribution. It is a specific hosted-delivery illustration, not an India price for a cloud PC, not a general YouTube creator cost and not a monthly quote. See the example in AWS’s live-streaming cost guide.

Build a like-for-like cloud estimate
For the same monthly hours and required output, identify the named cloud product and region, then check its current pricing for the complete workload. Include:
- Compute or runtime charges, including idle time, minimum billing periods and any required accelerator.
- Persistent storage or disks, plus storage for source files if applicable.
- Data transfer or egress charges and any managed encoding, packaging or viewer-delivery charges.
- Taxes, reserved capacity or other recurring commitments that apply to the price you are using.
If the cloud machine sends a stream to YouTube, confirm it can encode the selected resolution and frame rate and sustain the required upload bitrate. Do not use a viewer-delivery estimate as a substitute for a cloud-PC price. Current cloud prices depend on the product, region, specifications, runtime and included network/storage charges; obtain a workload-specific estimate before deciding that cloud is cheaper.

Put the two monthly incremental costs side by side only after using the same streaming hours and a technically viable output target.

Cloud is not automatically cheaper or more reliable. The answer depends on the measured PC load, your tariff and hours, the specific cloud service and region, and the actual performance and charges required. Compare operational fit as well as the bill: interruptions at home, setup effort, control over your files and settings, and whether you need an always-on stream can change which option is useful.
