To keep a Bengali online radio station live on YouTube, send its audio together with a static image or looping visual through an encoder such as OBS Studio or FFmpeg. Create the stream in YouTube Studio, connect the encoder with YouTube’s stream URL and key, then monitor the feed and prepare a restart plan. For a computer-free option, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos to YouTube from the cloud.
What you need before going live
- An existing Bengali radio audio feed or recordings you have permission to broadcast.
- A verified YouTube channel eligible to live stream. YouTube says first-time live access may take up to 24 hours to activate, and the channel must not have a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Live streamers must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- An encoder—OBS Studio on a computer, or FFmpeg on a server—and a visual asset, such as station artwork or a loop, that you own or may use.
- A plan for continuous power, network access, audio-source availability, monitoring, and recovery.
Create the YouTube live stream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream, then enter its title, description, and visibility.
- Retrieve the stream URL and stream key from the stream’s encoder settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send video to your channel. Use YouTube’s encoder setup guide for the current Live Control Room steps.
- Enter the URL and key in your encoder’s streaming settings. Start the encoder and check the preview and status in Live Control Room before considering the broadcast live.
Choose an encoder setup
| Approach | Best suited to | Tradeoffs |
|---|---|---|
| OBS Studio on a computer | Operators who want a graphical scene and can keep a computer running and supervised. | Visual setup is convenient, but the computer, session, power, and network must remain available. |
| FFmpeg on a VPS | Technically capable operators who want a headless process running in the background. | Requires server setup and troubleshooting; hosting availability and cost vary. A restart can be configured, but it does not guarantee uninterrupted streaming. |
OBS Studio: graphical desktop workflow
- Install OBS Studio and open its Auto-Configuration Wizard to establish starting settings; OBS provides its Help Portal for setup guidance.
- Create a scene and add the station’s audio source. Add an Image source for station artwork or a Media Source for a looping visual. Check that the image and audio are both present in the preview.
- In OBS stream settings, select YouTube or enter the stream URL and key from Live Control Room. Keep the key private.
- Use the wizard’s recommended output settings as a starting point, then verify the resulting stream preview and status in YouTube Studio. The cited guidance does not establish one bitrate or resolution suitable for every source and connection, so avoid copying a universal setting without checking your upload capacity and video needs.
- Start streaming in OBS and monitor the YouTube preview. Keep the computer awake, OBS open, and the network connected for the duration you need.
FFmpeg on a VPS: background workflow
A practical approach described by RadioTech Studio combines a station audio URL with a still image or looping video, encodes the result, and sends it to YouTube. The particular command depends on the actual audio source, visual file, server setup, and stream settings; do not paste a generic command without adapting and testing it. See the guide, How to Stream Your Radio 24/7 on YouTube Live with OBS & FFmpeg, as a third-party practical reference, not a guarantee from YouTube.
- Set up a VPS and verify that it can reach both the radio audio source and YouTube’s ingest endpoint.
- Prepare a station image or looping visual that you have rights to use. Confirm the audio URL is reachable from the server.
- Configure FFmpeg to combine the audio and visual, encode a live audio-video feed, and send it to YouTube using the stream URL and key from Live Control Room.
- Run the process in the background and configure a service supervisor or equivalent restart procedure if appropriate for your server. Test what happens when the audio source or connection drops; a configured restart does not prevent every failure.
- Check the stream in Live Control Room and monitor logs and source availability. Keep a recovery procedure for restarting the process and replacing a compromised stream key.
Adding hosts or interviews
If the broadcast includes live presenters, connect the microphone or other audio hardware to the encoder and check levels before going live. YouTube’s API documentation also describes keeping a continuous 24/7 feed while creating a separate broadcast for an interview within that feed. That approach uses API concepts and is more complex than simply sending one continuous encoder feed; see YouTube Live Streaming API: Understanding Broadcasts and Streams.
Make continuity and archives part of the plan
- For OBS, keep the computer powered, awake, connected, and running the encoder. For FFmpeg, monitor the VPS, network, source URL, process, and restart behavior.
- Use Live Control Room to check stream status. Assign someone to respond to a failed source or encoder if the station cannot tolerate an unattended interruption.
- YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not promise automatic archiving for longer uninterrupted streams. If an archive matters, record the source separately or plan separate broadcast segments rather than relying on an archive beyond that stated limit.
- YouTube’s API documentation describes a continuous feed as a supported example, but that does not mean any particular encoder, server, or source will run without interruption.
Check music rights and YouTube rules
Having permission to relay an online radio feed does not automatically establish that the station may rebroadcast every composition, sound recording, performance, or other third-party element on YouTube in every territory. Check the station’s agreements and applicable licensing requirements for its repertoire and audience regions. The answer depends on the station’s location, catalogue, rights already held, and intended territories.

YouTube’s Terms of Service, effective December 15, 2023, state that submitted content must not include third-party intellectual property unless the uploader has permission or another legal basis, and that the person or entity providing content is responsible for it. YouTube also requires live content to comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms; review its current live-streaming help before launch, since restrictions can affect channel eligibility.
Use music, recordings, station logos, photographs, and video only when the station owns them or has the necessary rights. A YouTube stream key and an encoder do not grant music licences.

Troubleshooting common interruptions
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not show an incoming preview | Encoder is not sending, or the URL or stream key is incorrect. | Confirm the encoder is running and its stream settings match the current Live Control Room details. Reset a key if it may have been exposed. |
| Video arrives but there is no radio audio | Wrong input, unavailable source URL, muted track, or audio routing issue. | Check the audio source in OBS or the FFmpeg input, verify playback at the source, and confirm audio activity in the encoder. |
| Broadcast stops unexpectedly | Power, computer session, server, network, source, encoder, or YouTube-side interruption. | Identify which dependency failed, restore it, restart the encoder if needed, then verify status in Live Control Room. Use a supervisor or recovery process where suitable. |
| Audio or video is unstable | Source or connection instability, or encoder settings unsuitable for the available upload capacity. | Check the source and network first. Revisit encoder output settings using OBS’s configuration guidance and verify a stable preview before relying on the new settings. |
| Expected archive is missing | The uninterrupted stream exceeded YouTube’s stated under-12-hour automatic archive window. | Keep a separate recording or create shorter broadcast segments when archiving is important. |
