To stop Twitch recommending a particular streamer, open the three-dot menu on that channel’s recommendation card or listing and choose Block channel (or the equivalent option shown). Twitch says this removes the channel from recommendation areas such as the front-page carousel and recommended-channel lists. It is a discovery control—not a guarantee that the channel cannot be found or watched directly.
If you mean stopping a person from messaging you, hiding their chat messages, or keeping someone out of your own chat, use a user block, Ignore, or a channel ban instead. Those controls do different jobs.
Block a channel from Twitch recommendations
- Sign in to Twitch and open the home page, Following page, or another place where the unwanted channel appears as a recommendation.
- Find the channel’s card or listing. Use the three-vertical-dots or more options control attached to that item—not a menu belonging to the video player.
- Choose Block channel or the channel-blocking option Twitch displays. Confirm if prompted.
- Return to the recommendation area and check that the channel has disappeared.
Twitch documents channel blocking as a way to remove a channel from its front-page carousel and recommendation areas, including recommended channels in the left navigation and recommendation areas on the Following page. The precise menu label and placement can change between desktop web, mobile web, and the Twitch app, so the desktop-web path above is a guide to the control rather than a promise that every screen looks identical. Twitch personalizes recommendations using signals that can include language, region, device, browser, engagement, and viewing history. As a result, a channel may show up in more than one recommendation module. Blocking is intended to remove that channel from recommendation surfaces, rather than dismissing just one card.

What channel blocking does—and does not do
Block channel is for controlling what Twitch recommends to you. Twitch says the blocked channel is removed from the carousel and should not appear again in the recommendation areas covered by its customization guidance. It is the more targeted choice if one particular channel keeps appearing.
That does not establish a site-wide access restriction. A blocked channel may still be reachable if you search for it, open a direct link, follow a link someone shares, or encounter an embed or mention outside Twitch’s recommendation surfaces. Channel blocking also should not be treated as blocking every account associated with a streamer.

If you dislike a broader category, streamer type, or recommendation shelf, choose Not Interested when Twitch offers it. Twitch describes that option as a way to remove an item from a shelf or collection and improve future recommendations. It is not identical to blocking one channel.

If you mean block a person, not a channel
A Twitch user block targets an individual account, not a recommendation source. Twitch describes it as a personal privacy tool. Depending on the interaction, it can remove the person from your follower relationship, prevent future follows and Whispers, filter their messages in chats you do not moderate, and restrict certain subscription and gift-subscription interactions. Twitch says the blocked person is not directly notified. Read Twitch’s explanation of bans, blocking, and suspensions for the distinctions.

From chat, click the person’s username to open their user card, open the three-dot menu, and select Block [username]. From a Whisper conversation, open its settings or cog menu and choose the block option. Twitch also supports blocking from a profile card. To review or remove user blocks, go to the Privacy section of your Security Settings.
Blocking a user does not mean they are unable to watch your stream. If you own the channel and need to prevent someone from participating in your chat, use channel moderation controls; if preventing them from viewing a livestream is necessary, Twitch says to ban them from the channel and enable the setting that prevents banned users from viewing livestreams.

Hide chat messages with Ignore
If you only want to stop seeing someone’s messages, click their name in chat and choose Ignore, or enter /ignore username in chat. To reverse it, use the unignore control or enter /unignore username. Twitch says Ignore hides messages and applies to chat and Whispers; it is narrower than a user block.
There is an important moderator exception: moderators still see messages from ignored users in channels they moderate so they can perform moderation duties. Those messages remain hidden in channels where you are not a moderator, and the ignored person’s Whispers remain blocked. See Twitch’s chat-harassment guidance.

If you own or moderate the channel: ban or timeout
A channel ban is not a viewer blocking a channel or a personal block against a user. It is a moderation action for one channel: a banned user cannot send messages in that channel’s chat. A timeout is a temporary ban; a permanent ban lasts until the channel owner or moderators change it. A banned user may still be able to watch the stream unless the channel has enabled Twitch’s setting to prevent banned users from viewing livestreams. Ordinary channel bans are channel-specific, and Twitch does not decide those bans or handle appeals of them. Details are in Twitch’s bans and blocking overview.
Report a channel, streamer, or message
Hiding a recommendation does not notify Twitch about potentially harmful conduct. If you believe a stream, broadcaster, account, username or avatar, chat message, or Whisper violates Twitch’s Terms of Service or Community Guidelines, report it. On desktop, Twitch’s documented channel-report route is the three-dot icon below the video player, followed by Report Live Stream or Report Something Else. For a specific message or Whisper, report from that item when possible so the report includes the relevant context. Use Twitch’s reporting instructions.
If it is safe and appropriate, preserve relevant evidence, report the specific violation, and then block the channel or user to reduce further exposure. If you moderate the affected channel, use its moderation tools as well. Reporting and blocking are separate actions; submitting a report does not automatically block the account.

Why a blocked channel may still appear
- You opened it directly. Channel blocking is documented as recommendation control, not a ban on deliberate searches, direct links, or externally shared links.
- You are looking at a different surface. A link, embed, mention, or another person’s activity may not be a personalized recommendation module.
- You chose a different control. Not Interested adjusts recommendations around an item or shelf; Unfollow changes your follow relationship. Neither should be assumed to substitute for blocking that channel.
- The menu is missing. Make sure you are opening the options menu attached to the recommendation card, not the player menu. If the channel is open directly, return to a recommendation listing. Mobile layouts and Twitch’s interface can place or label controls differently.
- You want to stop contact. Blocking the channel as a recommendation source does not by itself block the streamer’s user account. Use user blocking for unwanted interaction.
Undoing a block
For a blocked user, Twitch documents managing blocked accounts in the Privacy section of Security Settings. For a blocked channel, Twitch’s available customization guidance does not describe one universal text-based recovery path. If Twitch shows an Unblock channel option, look for it in the same channel or recommendation options controls; otherwise check the current content-personalization controls in your account settings. The exact route may differ by device and interface version, so do not assume the user-block management list also restores channel recommendations.
