Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Add overlays in OBS Studio or Streamlabs Desktop by adding an image, text, or browser source to the scene you send to YouTube. Static graphics use an image source; live chat and alert widgets usually use a browser source supplied by a third-party service. YouTube Live Control Room is not where these overlays are assembled in the workflow described here.
Choose the right overlay source
| What you want to show | Source to add | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Logo, frame, or corner graphic | Image | Loads a local image file into the scene. Streamlabs also documents adding image files under a scene’s Sources. |
| Short label or simple wording | Text | Displays text directly in the scene. Keep it brief and readable at the stream’s output size. |
| Chat, alerts, or another live webpage widget | Browser | Displays a web page in the scene, typically using a widget URL and setup instructions from its provider. OBS describes Browser Source as a way to add a web page to a scene. |
| Streamlabs theme or overlay collection | Streamlabs Desktop library, OBS plugin, or imported scene collection | Use Streamlabs Desktop’s library, or bring the collection into OBS using the plugin or the documented scene-collection import route. |
OBS does not itself provide chat or alert services. Its guidance is to embed overlays from third-party providers with a Browser Source. For a static graphic, a local image source is sufficient; an interactive widget commonly needs its provider’s page or URL. See the OBS Sources Guide, OBS FAQ, and Streamlabs’ overlay instructions.
Add an overlay in OBS Studio or Streamlabs Desktop
- Select the scene. Open OBS Studio or Streamlabs Desktop and choose the scene that should contain the overlay. You can make separate scenes for a starting screen, main live layout, or break screen.
- Add the appropriate source. In the Sources area, select the plus or add control and choose Image for a static graphic, Text for wording, or Browser for a web page or widget. Names and placement of controls can vary by software version.
- Choose the file or widget. For an image, browse to the graphic file. For a browser widget, use the URL and configuration steps provided by the widget’s service; do not substitute a guessed URL.
- Arrange the composition. Position and resize the source in the scene preview. Keep important documentary footage visible and check that text can be read at the intended output size.
- Check every scene that needs it. Add the overlay to each relevant scene, or use the reuse controls documented for your software version. Source reuse options differ, so verify the result in each scene rather than assuming one addition applies everywhere.
- Preview before going live. Confirm the complete scene looks right, including the overlay’s placement over moving footage, before sending it to YouTube.
Use a Streamlabs overlay in OBS Studio
Streamlabs documents two routes for using its overlays in OBS: install its plugin or import a Streamlabs scene collection. Streamlabs describes the plugin as the easiest route and the collection import as the alternative when you do not want the plugin. Follow the current steps in Streamlabs’ overlay guide; labels and compatibility can change.
Plugin compatibility
Streamlabs’ Quick Start Guide, published May 20, 2026, lists Windows and OBS Studio 28.0.0 or later as requirements. It also notes that some changes, including adding an overlay, may require restarting OBS. Check the current plugin quick-start guide before installing, especially if your operating system or OBS version differs.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Scene-collection import
If you do not use the plugin, import the Streamlabs scene collection according to Streamlabs’ current guide, then inspect the imported scenes and sources in OBS. This brings the overlay setup into OBS without implying that every collection or source will behave identically across software versions.
Keep the overlay readable over documentary footage
- Put logos and persistent labels where they do not obscure faces, subtitles, archival details, or other essential footage.
- Use concise text and check it in the scene preview at the size viewers are likely to see.
- For chat and alerts, distinguish the third-party widget from the streaming software: the provider supplies the service and URL; OBS or Streamlabs displays it as a source.
- If an overlay belongs only on a starting or break scene, keep it out of the main footage scene by adding it only where it is needed.
Troubleshoot missing or incorrect overlays
There is no single fix established for every blank browser source or missing image; causes can depend on the software version, the local file, and the widget provider. Check the source type and configuration first, then consult the current instructions for the software or service involved.

- The widget is blank: Confirm you used a Browser source and the exact widget URL and setup steps supplied by its provider. Check that provider’s current troubleshooting guidance rather than assuming a universal cache or permission fix.
- The overlay appears in one scene but not another: Add it to each scene where it is required or use the software’s documented source-reuse feature, then preview those scenes individually.
- The Streamlabs plugin option is unavailable or changes do not appear: Check the current Windows and OBS version requirements in Streamlabs’ quick-start guide. If the guide indicates a restart is needed for the change, restart OBS and inspect the scene again.
Or let it run in the cloud
Overlays are part of an OBS or Streamlabs scene, so this is the do-it-yourself method for a stream you are producing through those apps. If your goal is instead to keep uploaded video live on YouTube around the clock, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera.
- Nothing has to stay running at home: the stream runs from the cloud, so your computer and home connection can be off.
- Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free, with no card required; it is one free day per account.
Monthly: $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube only. Start the free day on StreamNeo.
