Yes—U.S. YouTube TV members can add HBO Max through their membership settings. The simplest route is to sign in as the YouTube TV Family Manager in a browser, then select Profile picture → Settings → Membership → Add beside HBO Max and confirm the purchase. After it’s added, you can watch available content in YouTube TV or connect your provider account in the Max app.
You may see the service labeled HBO Max in YouTube TV and Max in the app or help pages. The names can vary by screen during the branding transition; they refer to the service discussed here. Check the Membership page for availability and the price offered to your account.
Before you add HBO Max
- Use the Family Manager account. The Family Manager controls YouTube TV membership and is the account YouTube TV identifies for connecting to the HBO Max app.
- Check availability and price in your account. YouTube TV’s available networks can depend on your home area. HBO Max is offered as an add-on in the U.S., but the Membership page is the place to confirm that it appears for your account and see its current price. See YouTube TV’s network availability information.
- Decide where you want to watch. Adding the service lets you use the HBO Max programming available through YouTube TV. You can also connect the provider subscription to the separate Max app; that requires a provider sign-in rather than treating your Google password as an existing Max password.
Add HBO Max to an existing YouTube TV membership in a browser
- Go to tv.youtube.com and sign in with the Google Account that manages your YouTube TV membership.
- Select your profile picture.
- Choose Settings, then Membership.
- Find HBO Max in the available add-ons and select Add.
- Review the price and billing details shown for your account, then select Purchase to confirm.

After confirmation, look for the add-on in your Membership and billing information. You can watch the content YouTube TV makes available through its interface, or connect the subscription in the Max app using the steps below.

Add HBO Max during YouTube TV signup
If you’re new to YouTube TV, you can select add-on networks while customizing your membership during signup:
- Open YouTube TV in a browser and sign in to a Google Account.
- Confirm your home ZIP code and location, then review the plan and available add-ons.
- Select HBO Max if it is offered, review the payment information, and complete the purchase.
The signup flow and available options may differ by account and location. YouTube TV’s signup and membership instructions describe customizing the plan before buying. A trial may be offered to eligible accounts, but don’t assume one is available: check the trial’s end date and renewal terms before confirming.
Can you add it from a TV?
On some supported TV devices, open the YouTube TV app, select the Store icon near your profile picture, choose the network, select Add network, and confirm. A locked program or channel may also show a purchase prompt. This option is not available on every device or account, so use the browser method if the Store or purchase option does not appear.

YouTube TV says direct add-on purchases on TV devices are not supported on Xbox or Apple TV. Complete the purchase in a browser or on another supported device instead. Details are in YouTube TV’s supported TV-device purchase guidance.
Watch through the Max app
If you want to use the separate Max app, connect the YouTube TV subscription as your provider. The wording of the screens can vary, but the usual process is:
- Install and open the Max app (which may still appear as HBO Max on some screens).
- Choose Sign In, then select Connect Your Provider or the equivalent provider sign-in option.
- Search for or select YouTube TV as the provider.
- Sign in with the Google Account associated with the YouTube TV membership. The Family Manager should do this initial provider connection.
- If prompted, create or confirm a Max account. Use the Max account credentials for later app sign-ins.
Max’s provider connection instructions explain that provider subscribers need to connect their account before using Max. YouTube TV’s Entertainment Plus information specifically describes using YouTube TV credentials for HBO Max app access. Other household members can use profiles created within the Max app after activation; those profiles are separate from YouTube TV profiles.

What does it cost?
The HBO Max add-on price is not stated as a fixed amount in YouTube TV’s add-on instructions. Check Settings → Membership and review the purchase screen before confirming; offers and displayed prices can change.

These prices are signals from the official pages on the date stated, not guaranteed current rates. Check the provider’s live price and plan terms before subscribing. YouTube TV and Max are different products: if you only want Max programming and do not need YouTube TV’s live channels, compare a direct Max subscription rather than adding a premium service to a live-TV plan.
Entertainment Plus may suit someone who wants two or more of its services, but it is not automatically a better deal for someone who only wants HBO Max. Existing individual add-ons do not automatically convert to the bundle; YouTube TV says subscribers must first unsubscribe from the individual channels to switch. Its bundle documentation also notes limits on the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME content available through the YouTube TV version. Check the bundle terms before changing subscriptions.

Billing, trials, and cancellation
Prorated charges and recurring billing
YouTube TV says an add-on is prorated from the date you add it through your next regular billing date. For example, if your billing date is the first of the month and you add HBO Max on January 10, the initial add-on charge covers January 10–31; the regular add-on amount is then included from the February 1 bill onward. Your dates and amounts depend on your own billing cycle and the price shown when you subscribe.
Add-on charges and trial terms can differ from the main YouTube TV plan’s trial. If YouTube TV offers you an HBO Max trial, check its end date, whether it converts automatically to a paid add-on, and what happens if you cancel the main plan. The YouTube TV trial information notes that trial availability and duration can vary.
Billing may be handled by YouTube TV or, depending on how the membership was purchased, by a mobile carrier, internet provider, Google Play, or another intermediary. Check your billing details and identify the biller before changing payment information or canceling.

Cancel only the HBO Max add-on
- Go to tv.youtube.com and sign in as the Family Manager.
- Select your profile picture → Settings → Membership.
- Find HBO Max and select Cancel.
- Confirm with Yes, Cancel.
This removes the add-on; it is not the same as canceling your entire YouTube TV membership. If you cancel the full YouTube TV plan, YouTube TV says its add-ons are canceled as well. See what happens when you cancel YouTube TV. If another company bills you, cancel through that provider instead.
Troubleshooting
HBO Max does not appear in Membership
- Make sure you are signed in as the YouTube TV Family Manager, not another household member.
- Open YouTube TV in a desktop or mobile browser and check Settings → Membership.
- Confirm your home location and ZIP code; add-on availability can vary by area.
- Check whether a carrier, internet provider, or other intermediary manages your billing or membership.
- Sign out and back in, then check again. If the add-on is still missing for an eligible U.S. membership, contact YouTube TV support.
The Max app cannot find or verify YouTube TV
- Confirm that HBO Max is active on the YouTube TV membership and allow time for the new add-on to become available.
- Choose Connect Your Provider, not just an ordinary Max sign-in.
- Select YouTube TV as the provider and use the Family Manager’s Google Account.
- If you subscribed to Max directly, use that direct Max account sign-in instead; a separate direct subscription is not the same as a YouTube TV provider subscription.
- If you already have a Max account, follow the prompt to connect or link it to the provider subscription. Don’t assume your Google password is already your Max password.
- If YouTube TV is not listed, check Max’s provider connection and sign-in help, then try again later or contact the relevant provider: Max sign-in troubleshooting.
You are on Xbox or Apple TV
Those devices do not support direct YouTube TV add-on purchases. Add HBO Max from a browser, then return to the TV app to watch.
You may have subscribed twice
Check both your YouTube TV Membership page and your Max account’s subscription or billing information. If you have a direct Max subscription as well as the YouTube TV add-on, cancel the one you do not intend to keep with the company that bills it. Do not cancel YouTube TV itself unless you also want to end the live-TV membership.

Which option makes sense?
- You already use YouTube TV and want one membership for live TV and HBO Max: Add it in YouTube TV and check the Membership screen for the price. Connect the provider in the Max app if you want to watch there.
- You only want Max shows and movies: Compare direct Max plans. You may not need a live-TV subscription.
- You want HBO Max plus STARZ and Paramount+ with SHOWTIME: Compare Entertainment Plus with buying services separately, and read the bundle’s content and subscription-switching limitations.
For the straightforward YouTube TV add-on, the browser path is the most reliable: Profile picture → Settings → Membership → Add → Purchase. Verify the price before confirming, and use the Family Manager account to connect the provider in Max.
