To show a meditation track title over your YouTube live video, add a text or browser overlay to your OBS scene. A text source is the simplest option: type the title yourself and update it when the music changes. For automatic updates, use an overlay or integration that can read track information from the playback app you actually use.
Put the title in the video, not just the YouTube listing
A track label viewers can read over the meditation image must be part of the video composition. In OBS, that means adding a Text Source or Browser Source to the scene. The YouTube broadcast title is separate listing metadata; changing it does not put a changing track name over the picture. See OBS documentation on sources and Browser Sources.
Add a track title manually in OBS
- Select the scene. In OBS Studio, choose the scene containing the meditation visual and music.
- Add a Text Source. In the Sources dock, select +, then add a Text source. OBS Text Sources can display customized text and can also read text from a file; see the OBS Sources Guide.
- Enter an accurate label. For example, use “Now playing: [track title] — [artist]” only when you know those details. Don’t imply an artist or track name you cannot verify.
- Place it above the image. Arrange the Text Source above the background or video source in the Sources list. Higher sources appear above lower ones. Resize and position the label in the preview so it remains readable without distracting from the meditation visual.
- Update it when the track changes. Edit the text for each new track. If you want less manual work, use a text file updated by an integration or a browser overlay, as described below.
- Check the output before going public. Record a short preview or run an appropriate private test to check that the title is visible and legible. OBS recommends testing settings before a first stream in its Quick Start Guide.
Automate title changes with a browser overlay or text file
Automation needs two things: a source of current track information and a visible layer that renders it in OBS. A Browser Source can load a local webpage or URL into the scene, with viewport dimensions and custom CSS settings available in OBS. Alternatively, an integration can write track data to a text file that an OBS Text Source reads. Neither approach can display reliable live track changes unless it receives usable metadata from your actual playback app.
Check the overlay against your player
An OBS forum resource called Music on Stream describes a browser-based current-song overlay. Its listing says it supports YouTube, YouTube Music, Spotify, SoundCloud, Deezer, Pretzel, and Epidemic Sound, and can use YouTube chapters or video-description playlists as title inputs. The listing reports its last update as September 18, 2025. These are the resource author’s compatibility claims, not independently verified results. Check the chosen version with your specific player and confirm that updates work before relying on it during a long stream.

Choose an approach that fits the session
- Manual Text Source: straightforward when track changes are infrequent, but someone must update the title each time.
- Text-file integration: can change the displayed text automatically if the integration receives track changes and writes the expected file.
- Browser overlay: can render a purpose-built overlay, but depends on the overlay and playback app working together. Test its behavior and layout before the public stream.
Playlists do not guarantee track metadata
OBS’s Media Source supports listed audio and video formats. OBS also documents a VLC Video source for playlist playback; VLC must be installed, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Playlist playback alone does not establish that each entry’s title will be passed to an overlay. If your player does not expose the current track information to your chosen integration, you may need to update the title manually. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.
Make sure the music is cleared for a live stream
A displayed title or artist credit does not grant permission to use the music. YouTube says it scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it identifies such content, it may show a placeholder image and warn the creator; if the content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. YouTube also notes that a creator with a licence may need the rights owner to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist, or the stream may still be interrupted. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and confirm that your rights cover livestream use.

Troubleshoot a missing or stale title
- The text is hidden: check that the source is enabled and positioned above the visual source in the Sources list.
- The overlay does not change tracks: verify that the player is supported by the exact overlay or integration version and that it receives current track metadata. Until that works, use a manual Text Source.
- A Browser Source appears blank or misformatted: check its URL or local page, viewport dimensions, and custom CSS, then preview the scene again.
- A playlist plays but has no changing labels: playback support is not the same as metadata support. Use a compatible metadata bridge or update the Text Source yourself.
- The stream shows a warning or placeholder: investigate YouTube’s copyright notice and resolve rights or allowlisting with the rights owner; attribution alone is not a fix.
