The figure Valya sees as Griffin at the end of the episode is Theodosia, who has changed her body and appearance to resemble Valya’s dead brother. The reveal confirms Theodosia can shapeshift. Her choice reads as an act of reassurance and support for Valya, though the episode does not confirm her exact motive.
Who does Theodosia turn into at the end of episode 4?
She turns into Griffin, Valya’s dead brother. In the final scene, the apparent Griffin’s face and body change, revealing Theodosia. The episode’s recap describes her ability as manipulating her body into another person’s shape. Parade’s episode 4 recap recounts the reveal and the exchange that follows.
Earlier in “Twice Born,” Valya and Theodosia discuss a power Theodosia has vowed not to use again. Valya says she would ask her to use it only as a last resort. When Theodosia reveals herself as Griffin, she says she is ready to do what it takes. Valya responds emotionally and embraces her.
What does the transformation mean for Valya?
The scene can be read as Theodosia offering Valya comfort by taking the form of someone she has lost. That interpretation fits the embrace and Theodosia’s reassurance, but the episode does not explicitly state that this is why she chose Griffin’s appearance. What it makes clear is that Theodosia is willing to use her ability in that moment and that Valya responds with visible emotion.

- Runtime: 390 minutes
Griffin’s form carries particular weight because he was Valya’s brother and his death remains a source of grief and blame within House Harkonnen. Mark Addy, who plays Evgeny Harkonnen, told TheWrap that Evgeny “places the blame squarely on her shoulders for Griffin’s death.” Addy described Griffin as “the golden boy, the hope, the future of House Harkonnen.” Those are Addy’s descriptions of Evgeny’s perspective and Griffin’s place in the family, not a neutral finding about Valya’s responsibility.
That family conflict gives the image of Griffin emotional force: Valya is trying to restore House Harkonnen’s standing while facing a family environment shaped by resentment over his death. The scene brings her ambition and grief together, even as Theodosia’s precise intention remains unconfirmed.

Is Theodosia a Face Dancer?
The transformation connects Theodosia to the Face Dancer concept in the Dune universe: people who can alter their appearance. Face Dancers appear in Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah, a later story that includes Scytale and a political conspiracy. The episode’s transformation invites that comparison, but it does not establish that Theodosia shares a novel character’s history, allegiance, or motives. For more on the franchise connection, see Den of Geek’s discussion of the Face Dancer concept.
Dune: Prophecy takes place millennia before the events discussed in Dune Messiah. The comparison supplies broader franchise context; the immediate facts are those shown in “Twice Born”: Theodosia can change her appearance, and she chooses Griffin’s form while reassuring Valya.
