The central technical distinction is simple: 4K output is not the same thing as 4K source detail. Why “remaster” is not necessarily “archival restoration”

For Remastured, the safest description is therefore “AI-assisted digital remastering” or “machine-learning-enhanced presentation.” “Restored” can be used when clearly attributed to the project’s own description or to contemporaneous reporting, but the available evidence does not establish that every title was restored from an original camera negative.
Colorization illustrates the tension particularly well. A black-and-white film can be colored in a way that feels vivid and plausible, yet plausibility is not historical accuracy. The same is true of smoothing, sharpening and interpolation: these operations can improve legibility or viewing comfort while moving the image farther from the appearance of the surviving source.
The archival questions behind the spectacle
Remastured raises questions that cannot be resolved simply by asking whether the films are old or whether a source work might be in the public domain.

Public-domain status, where it applies, does not automatically settle every question about a later digital derivative or its distribution in every country.
What does consent mean for historical sexual imagery?
Early films often come with incomplete records about performers, producers, distributors and the circumstances of their original circulation. Digitization can make material available at a scale and speed that its original makers could not have anticipated. That is especially consequential when the imagery is intimate, erotic or presented through a modern adult platform.
