At 17, Perth filmmaker Isabella Jacqueline founded Other-Side Films and, according to a March 2019 PerthNow profile, wrote, directed, produced and acted in a run of short films. The profile credited her with four shorts in six months and more than 30 international awards, while describing a creative approach built around concise stories and perspectives that complicate the line between good and evil.
How Isabella Jacqueline built Other-Side Films
Jacqueline founded the production company at 17. In a profile published on 19 March 2019, journalist Jessie Stoelwinder reported that Jacqueline was writing, directing, producing and acting in her films. The same article said she had made four short films in six months and received more than 30 international awards. Those are figures reported by PerthNow at the time; the profile does not provide an award-by-award list or a method for counting them.
The pace of production is part of the story: rather than being known only for a single early project, Jacqueline was building a body of short-film work while still a teenager. The profile’s account also emphasizes the range of roles she took on, from developing a story to performing it.
What films did Isabella Jacqueline make?
Love At First Sight and Christine
Love At First Sight was identified as Jacqueline’s debut short, followed by Christine. PerthNow reported that the films won at the Los Angeles Film Awards and New York Film Awards, without specifying in the profile which award belonged to which film.

Whose Crime Is It Anyway?
The profile also reported that Whose Crime Is It Anyway? won TopShorts. It described TopShorts as “the world’s largest online film festival”; that characterization is attributed here to PerthNow, rather than presented as an independently verified ranking.
The creative idea behind the films
Jacqueline told Stoelwinder that she was interested in looking at the “flip side” of a story and exploring the space between good and evil. That interest gives the profile’s description of her work a thematic through-line: stories that invite a different reading of characters or events, rather than a simple division between right and wrong.

She also described youth as a creative advantage, saying, “An advantage of being a young filmmaker is that you have a very fresh perspective on the world. You have a clear voice in terms of what you want to say, and you’re not so influenced by what others believe.” The remark is her perspective in the 2019 interview, not a general rule about filmmaking.
Why she favored concise storytelling
Jacqueline argued that a short film did not need an enormous budget or a star cast if its central point was clear. “You need to know exactly what you are saying, and it needs to be concise,” she said. She elaborated: “You don’t need 500 storylines and a huge star cast. You only need one storyline and a few actors … less is more.”

In the context of her work, this was a statement about focus: concentrate on one storyline and a small cast, and make the intended point legible. It should be read as Jacqueline’s own approach, not as a claim that every film can or should be made the same way.

Stoelwinder’s profile offers a snapshot of a young filmmaker’s activity and ambitions in 2019. It says Jacqueline was 17 when she founded Other-Side Films and describes her as 18 in a quoted remark, so those ages belong to that historical account, not to her present-day biography.

The article documents the named films, the reported festival recognition and Jacqueline’s comments about storytelling. It does not establish her current work or independently verify the reported award totals. The significance of the profile is therefore clearest as an account of how she was making films and articulating a creative voice at that point in her career.
