September 22, 2023: First dating reports
Us Weekly reported that Davidson and Cline were dating after they were reportedly seen staying overnight at the Beverly Hills Hotel and having breakfast there the next morning. Glamour said sources for People also confirmed the report. These were outlet reports, not a public announcement from Davidson or Cline.
Late September 2023: Las Vegas
ELLE’s timeline says Cline was spotted at one of Davidson’s Las Vegas comedy sets. It also relays an anonymous Us Weekly source’s claim that they had been dating for several weeks and wanted privacy.
Reported sightings and updates
October 14, 2023: SNL after-party
ELLE reported that Cline joined Davidson at the Saturday Night Live after-party at Catch Steak. The report described a public sighting; it did not amount to confirmation from either person.

November and December 2023: Low-key coverage
In November, ELLE recounted an anonymous Us Weekly source’s description of the relationship as going well and of the pair trying to keep it low-key. Claims in that account about family approval also came from the source, not from Davidson or Cline. ELLE later reported that the two were seen at Bobo’s Café in Somers, New York, on December 28.
April 18, 2024: Anonymous source describes them as in love
ELLE reported that a Us Weekly source described the pair as “very much in love.” That characterization was attributed to an anonymous source; neither Davidson nor Cline said it publicly.

When did Pete Davidson and Madelyn Cline break up?
The breakup timeline has two distinct stages in the coverage:
- July 9, 2024: ELLE noted that The Sun reported a quiet breakup.
- July 10, 2024: Entertainment Tonight reported that they had broken up after about 10 months. ET cited a source who described the relationship as on and off for months. ET also said the pair had never publicly confirmed their relationship.
- September 30, 2024: ELLE’s retrospective said Cline’s account placed the breakup in early 2024. It also reported that she said she would “rather not talk about their relationship.”
The July articles are reports published when the split became news; ELLE’s later account gives an earlier timing based on Cline’s account. The available coverage therefore does not establish one precise, mutually confirmed breakup date. It also does not establish a reason for the breakup: ET said it was unclear why the relationship fizzled.
What Davidson and Cline said about public attention
Neither person publicly confirmed the relationship. In the September 2024 account, ELLE reported Cline’s answer when asked about the internet’s fascination with dating someone famous: “The jokes write themselves.” She did not offer a detailed public explanation of the breakup.
Separately, in March 2023 remarks from the Real Ones podcast, Davidson said, “In 12 years, I’ve dated 10 people. I don’t think that’s that crazy, but to some people, that’s very interesting. That became all anyone would talk about.” Glamour reported the remarks that September. They reflect Davidson’s view of public attention to his dating life, not a count or description specific to his relationship with Cline.
