Survivor has a long record of drawing advertisers, but public sources do not establish how much the show currently earns CBS—or whether it is profitable. The best-known dollar figure is historical: in 2000, a 30-second ad during the show’s first-season finale was reported at about $600,000. That was the price of one ad spot more than two decades ago, not the series’ total revenue or a current rate.
What is known about Survivor’s earnings?
No title-specific current revenue or profit total is established in the public sources cited here. Paramount’s fiscal 2024 filing describes company-wide and segment revenue streams, including advertising, affiliate fees, and content licensing, but does not assign any of those amounts to Survivor or disclose the show’s costs. Without both revenue attribution and production costs, the show’s profit cannot be calculated.
The distinction matters: a reported price for one commercial spot is not a season’s advertising revenue, and revenue is not profit. Network or corporate totals cannot be treated as the show’s own financial results.
What the historical advertising figures tell us
In August 2000, The Washington Post reported that CBS could charge about $600,000 for a 30-second Survivor ad, citing Inside.com. The Los Angeles Times reported that companies were paying more than $500,000 for prime 30-second spots during the first-season finale. Both figures describe advertising rates in the show’s first-season era, not present-day prices or total earnings.

The early audience helps put those rates in context: the Los Angeles Times said the show had attracted more than 30 million viewers by its first-season finale. That is a 2000 audience figure, not a current estimate.
Later audience and current catalog figures
A separate snapshot came in February 2020. TheWrap reported preliminary Nielsen figures of 6.7 million total viewers and a 1.3 rating among adults 18–49 for the season 40 premiere. Those numbers describe that premiere alone; they are neither a current audience average nor a measure of revenue.

Paramount Global Content’s listing identifies Survivor as a CBS reality competition series with 50 seasons and 751 episodes, as of the listing accessed October 7, 2026. The catalog count demonstrates the series’ scale and longevity, but does not reveal what CBS earns from it or what it costs to produce.
How the company earns revenue—and why that does not answer the title-level question
Paramount’s 2024 Form 10-K discusses advertising, affiliate fees, and content licensing as company revenue streams. It also explains that licensing revenue is recognized according to the rights granted and the license period. Those disclosures explain how revenue can arise across the business, but they do not report a Survivor-specific share, production budget, or profit.

Can the show be called profitable?
The available figures support saying that Survivor had substantial advertising value early in its run and remains a large, long-running catalog property. They do not establish a current earnings total or a profit margin. A profit claim would require show-specific revenue and cost information, neither of which is disclosed in the cited public material.
