There is no single monthly price for a 24/7 YouTube stream in India. If you encode it on a computer at home, estimate electricity from the setup’s measured average power draw and your applicable electricity tariff; add internet, backup, equipment and any service costs separately. For a continuous 100-watt load, electricity use is about 72 kWh in a 30-day month—but the bill depends on your local tariff and other charges.
Estimate the electricity use of your setup
For a device running continuously for a 30-day month:
Monthly kWh = average watts × 24 × 30 ÷ 1,000 = average watts × 0.72

These are calculations from assumed wattages, not measurements of particular computers or streaming devices. To estimate your energy charge, multiply the monthly kWh by the applicable per-kWh rate. Then account for relevant fixed charges, duty, fuel or power-purchase adjustments, and other items on your bill. Your total bill may also include household use unrelated to streaming.

Measure the whole always-on setup
Use the average draw of the equipment that will actually stay on—not the computer’s advertised maximum power-supply rating. Include the encoder, router or modem, and any peripherals that remain powered. A plug-in electricity usage monitor can help you measure the combined load. If the load varies, measure over a representative period rather than treating a brief peak as the monthly average.
Why the electricity price differs across India
India does not have one retail electricity rate for this calculation. Tariff schedules vary by state or utility and consumer category, and state subsidies may affect what a household pays. The Central Electricity Authority’s Electricity Tariff & Duty and Average rates of electricity supply in India publication provides tariff and category information; for a practical estimate, check the current schedule for your state and utility and the billing category on your own bill.

Time-of-day tariffs add another qualification. A Ministry of Power release dated June 23, 2023 described tariffs during specified solar hours as 10–20% below normal and peak-hour tariffs as 10–20% above normal, with hours specified by state electricity regulatory commissions. That dated announcement is not a guarantee that every household currently has those rates. Check the current state tariff order and your bill.
Other costs to include in an all-in estimate
Internet connection
Your upload connection needs to sustain the stream’s bitrate with headroom and remain reliable. There is no single current Indian broadband price established here: use the price of your actual plan rather than a nationwide estimate. YouTube’s encoder guidance varies with resolution and frame rate, and YouTube advises creators to test before starting and monitor stream health during the broadcast.

Power and internet continuity
A UPS can provide short-duration backup for a locally running streaming setup. Choose capacity based on the measured load and the runtime you need; a UPS does not guarantee continuity through a long outage or an internet failure. Although government rules provide for 24×7 electricity supply subject to commission-specified lower hours for some categories, this does not mean every location has interruption-free service.
Equipment, services and content
Include any equipment purchase, cloud-hosting or streaming-service charge, content licensing, storage, and labor that applies to your setup. Those costs depend on the method and provider; without their actual prices, combining them into a single all-India total would be misleading.

Match the YouTube settings to the stream
Use YouTube’s current Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance for the resolution and frame rate you plan to send. It covers supported encoder settings and bitrate guidance; do not rely on an old bitrate table if the official guidance has changed. YouTube says it automatically transcodes live streams into multiple output formats, but your outgoing encoder still needs a stable connection at the selected settings.
- Choose a resolution and frame rate your encoder and upload connection can sustain.
- Set encoder and audio options using the current YouTube recommendations for that format.
- Test before going live, then monitor stream health during the broadcast.
Compare a local setup with a cloud stream
For a fair comparison, use the same stream quality and continuity assumptions. Compare measured average watts and resulting monthly kWh for a local encoder; your current marginal electricity rate and billing category; the upload capacity required by the selected resolution and frame rate; and any backup runtime you want. Then add the actual prices of the internet plan, equipment, cloud service, storage, licensing or labor that apply. The available figures do not establish a universal cloud-hosting price or a representative all-in monthly total for India.
