Jason Statham and Alan Ritchson bring two very different kinds of tension to Fast X: Statham returns as Deckard Shaw, a familiar antihero whose uneasy alliance with Dom’s family carries years of history, while Ritchson arrives as Aimes, the Agency’s new chief and an authority figure initially opposed to the crew. They make a strong case for the film’s title-grabbing ensemble moments—but “stole the show” is an interpretation, not a critical consensus established by the available reviews.
Why Statham and Ritchson stand out in Fast X
Fast X, the tenth film in the Fast & Furious saga, sends Dom Toretto and his family into conflict with Dante, whose revenge is tied to the events of Fast Five and puts Dom’s son in danger. In a story crowded with returning characters and shifting loyalties, Shaw and Aimes stand out because they occupy sharply different positions around Dom’s circle.
Shaw is a returning character with franchise history: once an enemy, he is now an uneasy ally. Aimes is new to the story, holding the Agency leadership role once associated with Mr. Nobody. The official film site describes him as someone who does not share his predecessor’s fondness for Dom’s crew. One performance draws on familiarity and a complicated past; the other adds the uncertainty of a powerful newcomer.
Deckard Shaw: a familiar antihero on the edge of the family
Statham’s advantage is the accumulated history behind Shaw. He does not enter as a blank-slate action figure; the character’s former opposition to Dom’s crew gives his uneasy alliance an inherent edge. That makes Shaw’s presence legible quickly, even in an ensemble film where many characters and plotlines compete for attention.

The appeal is not that Shaw replaces the central family, but that he remains adjacent to it: useful, dangerous, and not simply folded into it. Statham’s established action-star persona fits that boundary. It gives the film a recognizable source of physical confidence while keeping Shaw’s loyalties distinct from Dom’s.
Aimes: a new authority figure with uncertain loyalties
Ritchson’s Aimes serves a different purpose. As the new head of the Agency, he brings institutional authority into conflict with Dom’s crew. The film’s official description emphasizes the contrast with Mr. Nobody: Aimes is not predisposed to favor the group. That makes his presence a source of pressure rather than the comfort of a returning ally.

Where Shaw’s significance comes from what audiences already know, Aimes’ comes from what remains uncertain about a new figure in power. Ritchson gives the ensemble another axis of tension: not a family member or an established friend, but an official whose relationship with the crew cannot be taken for granted.
Does the critical reception say they stole the show?
That is a fair personal verdict, but the available reviews do not establish it as a broad critical consensus. RogerEbert.com notes that Jason Momoa’s performance enlivens many of the action set pieces. Rotten Tomatoes’ first-reviews roundup likewise reports that even negative reviews recognized Momoa as a highlight, and The Guardian singles out the playful humor and camp of his Dante.

Those comments do not rule out a viewer finding Statham and Ritchson especially memorable. They do mean the title works best as an argument about the two actors’ contrasting functions—not as a claim that critics agreed they outshone everyone else. Rotten Tomatoes’ cast interview, published May 19, 2023, included Ritchson among 13 cast members and discussed the new villain, the franchise’s future, and family; it establishes his relevance to the film’s publicity, not a comparative acting judgment. The page displayed a 56% Tomatometer figure when retrieved on October 8, 2026. That is a changeable film-rating snapshot, not an acting score for either performer.
