Spotify Premium Family is one subscription for up to six separate Premium accounts belonging to people who live at the same address. One person—the plan manager—pays the full bill and manages membership. Everyone else keeps an individual login, playlists, recommendations, and listening history.
The same-address rule is decisive: being related is not enough, and Spotify may require members to confirm the household address. Prices, features, age rules, and promotions vary by country.

What Premium Family includes
- Up to six people total, including the manager.
- Separate Spotify accounts and credentials—not one shared login.
- Premium benefits such as ad-free listening, offline downloads, on-demand playback, and unlimited skips, subject to market availability.
- Household and parental-control tools managed by the plan manager.
Spotify describes Family as a billing arrangement for individual accounts. Members do not share one library or recommendation profile. The manager controls invitations and removals, but cannot see another member’s private account simply because they pay for the plan. See Spotify’s Family-plan overview.
Who can join?
The manager and every member must live at the same home address and enter that address when joining. Spotify says it checks address information rather than tracking a member’s location for this process. Members do not have to be legally related; housemates can qualify if they genuinely share the household.

An invitee must use their own Spotify account (or create one), accept the invitation, and confirm the address. A person who already manages another Family or Duo plan generally cannot join until that plan is changed or ended. Spotify also limits plan switching to once every 12 months.
The address must be in the same country as the payment method issued to the manager. Do not enter somebody else’s address to get through verification.
How much does Spotify Family cost?
US listing checked September 2026: Spotify’s US Premium page shows Family at $21.99 per month for up to six accounts. The same page shows Duo at $18.99, Individual at $12.99 after its displayed introductory offer, and Student at $6.99 after its displayed introductory offer. These are US figures, not worldwide prices; taxes, promotions, payment country, and future price changes can alter the final charge. Check the current US Premium page or your country’s Spotify site before subscribing.

Spotify charges the manager the full Family price whether one slot or all six slots is occupied. Spotify does not split the bill automatically; household members must reimburse the manager privately.

For illustration, $21.99 works out to about $3.67 each with six users, $5.50 with four, $7.33 with three, or $11 with two. Those are simple divisions, not separate Spotify prices. With only two users, Duo may be simpler, although it is just $3 less in the displayed US pricing.
What each member gets—and the audiobook limitation
Each ordinary member receives their own Premium account and associated Premium features available in that market. However, included audiobook listening is not shared across the household. Spotify says the 15 hours per month included with US Family and Duo are for the plan manager only; the manager may buy additional listening time for members where offered.

- Managed accounts: Separate profiles with controls for explicit content, videos and Canvas, blocked artists or songs, discoverability, and in-app purchases. A managed account uses one Family slot.
- Spotify Kids: A separate child-focused app with curated audio and parental controls. Each Kids account also uses one slot.
- Ordinary member accounts: Full Spotify accounts whose playback settings can be managed by the plan manager where Spotify provides those controls.
Managed-account eligibility, under-13 rules, consent and verification requirements, and Spotify Kids availability vary by market. Spotify says a parent or legal guardian must manage a managed account. Converting an existing account can affect listening history and personal information after a seven-day reversal period, and active add-ons are canceled; read Spotify’s managed-account setup guidance first.

How the manager sets up Family
- Open Spotify’s Premium signup or plan-change page and choose Premium Family.
- Enter the household address.
- Choose a payment method and complete the on-screen signup.
- Open the Family or account-management page and invite members.
Menu labels can move between the web account page and app. A Family plan cannot be paid through mobile billing or another company. If the existing subscription is billed by a mobile carrier, internet provider, or another partner, Spotify may require cancellation through that partner and waiting until the current Premium period ends.
How an invited member joins
- Open the invitation email or link and choose Accept invite.
- Check that the correct Spotify account is shown; use Change account if necessary.
- Enter the same full address as the manager.
- Confirm the address and finish joining.
On a shared computer or phone, the manager should log out before the member opens the link. Otherwise Spotify may attach the invitation to the wrong account.
Address verification: deadlines and consequences
Spotify may request an address when a member joins, when the manager changes the address, or when existing information cannot be confirmed. If Spotify sends a re-verification email, the member has seven days to enter the address again. If verification fails or the deadline is missed, that account loses Family Premium and returns to Spotify Free.
Spotify says a failed verification also prevents the account from joining another Family or Duo plan for 12 months from the date verification failed, although Spotify says it may rejoin the same Family or Duo plan. This is why repeatedly sending invitations is not a solution to a failed check.

If address autocomplete cannot find the home, enter the full address and choose Spotify’s closest valid building, street name, or public place suggestion. Do not select an unrelated address. See Spotify’s address-verification instructions.
Invitation and verification troubleshooting

| Member recently changed plans | Check the once-per-12-month switching limit. |

The manager is responsible for payment, invitations, removals, and address changes. Removing someone frees a slot but does not lower the monthly price or automatically downgrade the subscription. The manager continues paying Family pricing until changing or canceling the plan, then can invite a replacement.

If a member joins while holding directly billed Premium, Spotify says unused Premium time may be forfeited and the manager’s next payment date may move earlier to account for the price difference. Partner-billed subscriptions follow the partner’s cancellation rules instead.

What happens when someone leaves or the manager cancels?
A member can leave through Spotify’s plan-management flow. The account is not necessarily deleted; when Family access ends it normally returns to Spotify Free. The 12-month switching rule still matters, so leaving casually can prevent an immediate move to another discounted plan.
The manager cannot simply transfer ownership inside the existing plan. Changing the account structure may require a new plan. When the manager changes to a smaller plan, Spotify asks which members should remain Premium; unselected members move to Free on the next billing date. If the manager cancels Family, managed accounts move to Spotify’s free, ad-supported service. Spotify’s plan-change guidance explains timing and what happens to account content; playlists and saved music generally remain when changing plans.
Family, Duo, Individual, or Student?
- Choose Family when at least three regular Premium users share one stable address and one person is willing to manage the bill.
- Choose Duo for two co-resident users who do not need four additional slots.
- Choose Individual when only one person needs Premium or household members live separately.
- Choose Student only for one person who meets Spotify’s student eligibility and verification requirements; it is not a substitute for household sharing.
- Choose Free for a household member who does not need Premium, while remembering that unused Family slots do not reduce the manager’s charge.
Bottom line for households
Family is usually compelling at three to six Premium users who genuinely share an address: everyone keeps a private account while one manager pays one bill. It is a poor fit for relatives at different addresses, groups that cannot trust one person with billing, people who need shared audiobook hours, or members likely to change plans frequently. Verify the address honestly, use the invite with the correct account, and understand the seven-day and 12-month consequences before accepting.
