Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port have spoken warmly about one another, but the clearest recent account of their contact is not that they are close or regularly in touch. Port said in October 2023 that she adored Conrad, though they had not spoken in about a year. That interview does not establish whether they have spoken since.
What Whitney Port said about their relationship
In an October 2023 interview with Us Weekly, Port said, “I haven’t spoken to her in a year maybe.” She added that Conrad had moved away and that they “just don’t chat as much anymore because we’re not in each other’s lives.” Port also said she adored Conrad.
Port described their connection during The Hills as “very much work friends,” rather than best friends. She nevertheless remembered Conrad looking out for her off camera. The distinction helps explain why the warmth viewers saw on the show did not necessarily mean the two had a close personal friendship.
What they told each other in 2020
The most revealing conversation from both women took place on Port’s With Whit podcast in September 2020. Port described them as “good friends that you had really special experiences with, that you always have love for, but that you don’t always keep in touch with,” as Glamour reported.

Conrad agreed that the connection had lasted, saying, “I have so much love in my heart for you and, like, we shared this really weird, unique thing, and I think it is, it’s like old college friends, you know. I’ll always remember you like that, and I’ll never have that with anybody else.” The episode page identifies Conrad as the guest and gives the publication date as September 22, 2020.
Why Port once thought Conrad had rejected her
Port said she had worried that Conrad’s decision to leave The Hills meant Conrad wanted nothing to do with her. In the 2020 conversation, Conrad explained that stepping away was about needing a clean break from the show and its social world, not about Port. She apologized for making Port feel rejected: “And I apologize for ever making you feel that way, because obviously it had nothing to do with you personally…”

That clarification points to distance and different life paths—not an ongoing feud—as the explanation the women themselves gave. It also puts Port’s later description of them as work friends in context: their shared experience mattered, even if they were not as close off camera as the show might have suggested.
How the on-screen friendship compared with real life
In 2021, Port said filming had kept them from becoming as personally close as viewers may have assumed. Their on-camera familiarity grew out of working together and sharing an unusual reality-TV experience; it was not proof that they were best friends away from the cameras.

Conrad’s earlier comments were positive, too. In a 2010 Glamour interview, she called Port “a very understanding, levelheaded person” and said, “So I never had a fight with her.” That is useful history, but it is not a current update on how often they speak.

The women have described lasting affection and a meaningful shared history, alongside a relationship that was not consistently close and became less active as their lives diverged. Port’s 2023 account is the latest specific statement here about their contact: she said they had not spoken in about a year. The available statements do not confirm whether they have spoken since that interview, nor do they establish a recent reunion.
