Hisense’s L9Q, unveiled at CES on January 3, 2025, is a 4K triple-laser ultra-short-throw projector sold as a “Laser TV.” It can project images from 80 to 200 inches; 150 inches is a supported screen size, not a built-in television panel. Hisense rates it at up to 5,000 ANSI lumens and equips it with a 6.2.2-channel, 116-watt Devialet audio system with Dolby Atmos. The U.S. projector listing showed $5,999.99 and “sold out” on August 18, 2026, so price and availability require checking at purchase.

What the Hisense L9Q actually is

The L9Q is a console-style ultra-short-throw (UST) projector. It sits close to a wall or screen and contains the light engine, smart-TV software, speakers and HDMI connections. A separate projection surface creates the picture.

Hisense uses “Laser TV” as a lifestyle term for this projector-and-TV-like package. It is not a 150-inch television panel. The current U.S. listing describes projection from 80 to 200 inches, while launch materials highlighted 100-, 110-, 120-, 136- and 150-inch screen options. Screen size depends on placement, optics and the screen selected.

See Hisense’s launch announcement and U.S. product page for the company’s descriptions.

Brightness, TriChroma color and contrast

5,000 ANSI lumens is a rated maximum

Hisense claims up to 5,000 ANSI lumens, positioning the L9Q for brighter living rooms. Actual perceived brightness changes with picture mode, HDR or SDR content, screen gain, image size, calibration and ambient light. A 150-inch image spreads the available light across a much larger area than a smaller image, and windows or ceiling fixtures still reduce contrast.

An ambient-light-rejecting (ALR) or ceiling-light-rejecting (CLR) screen is therefore important in a bright room. A white wall or ordinary screen can produce more washout even with a high-output projector. Hisense’s launch materials are available as a downloadable product document.

Separate red, green and blue lasers

TriChroma uses dedicated red, green and blue laser sources. Hisense claims 110% BT.2020 coverage and Pantone and Pantone SkinTone validation on its U.S. page. Wide gamut does not guarantee accurate color in every mode: calibration, source mastering and viewing settings still matter.

Black levels remain the trade-off

Independent coverage from TechRadar praises the L9Q’s brightness and color but reports black-level and contrast performance below the best premium projectors and emissive displays. The claimed 5,000:1 native contrast ratio should not be read as OLED-like darkness in a dark cinema.

Screen sizes and installation

The launch range included 100-, 110-, 120-, 136- and 150-inch ALR screens. The current U.S. projector page broadens the projection specification to 80–200 inches; that does not mean every size is bundled, equally bright or suitable for every room.

A 150-inch 16:9 image is approximately 131 inches wide and 74 inches tall before borders or housing. Measure the wall, viewing distance and furniture height first. UST optics make alignment more sensitive than a conventional long-throw projector.

  1. Place the projector on a stable, level console close to the wall or screen.
  2. Use a rigid UST-compatible screen, aligned precisely with the projector.
  3. Run Auto Screen Fit and Auto Screen Alignment, then correct remaining geometry manually if needed.
  4. Prefer physical alignment over heavy keystone correction, which can reduce usable image quality.

Hisense lists a 0.18:1 throw ratio. Screen inclusion is market- and SKU-dependent: launch materials described paired ALR solutions, while U.S. review configurations did not include a screen. Confirm the exact bundle before paying.

Built-in Devialet audio and Dolby Atmos

The L9Q integrates a 6.2.2-channel, 116-watt system with Devialet involvement, up-firing drivers and two subwoofers. The U.S. listing supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X; the launch announcement also notes a 15-degree tilted sound enclosure and eARC.

This is useful for a clean installation without a separate soundbar or receiver. Atmos effects still depend on room dimensions, ceiling height, seating position and the content mix. A discrete surround system can provide wider speaker separation, deeper bass, more flexible placement and easier upgrades. The L9Q can feed one through HDMI eARC.

Smart TV, connections and gaming

The U.S. model includes Google TV, Google Assistant, Chromecast, AirPlay 2, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, Ethernet, a tuner, optical audio and Control4 compatibility. Connections include four HDMI inputs, two HDMI 2.1 ports, eARC on HDMI 3, USB 2.0, USB 3.0 and USB-C. Overseas variants may use VIDAA instead of Google TV; verify the regional model.

Hisense specifies 12 ms input lag at 2K/120Hz, 4K/60Hz output, Auto Low Latency Mode and a Turbo Mode. TechRadar reports 1080p/240Hz support. Neither 2K/120Hz nor 1080p/240Hz is 4K/120Hz, so console and PC buyers seeking full-resolution high-refresh gaming should confirm the exact U.S. input modes.

What a complete system may cost

Configuration Observed price information What to verify
Projector only $5,999.99; sold out in the August 18, 2026 snapshot Stock, screen compatibility and return terms
L9Q with ALR screen Collection page showed from $7,599.99; another captured listing showed from $6,599.99 Exact screen size, SKU and current price
L9Q, ALR screen and HT Saturn soundbar $6,599.99 sale versus $9,099.97 regular price on one captured listing Discount validity, screen size and bundle contents

The three-piece listing is at Hisense’s bundle page. Installation, wall reinforcement and screen mounting add to ownership cost even when not itemized by the manufacturer.

How it compares with a large television

L9Q strengths Flat-panel strengths
120–150-inch images are more practical than with most panels Deeper blacks and more consistent contrast
High rated brightness, integrated Google TV and substantial built-in audio Less affected by room light and screen quality
UST placement close to the screen and no lamp replacement No screen alignment or throw-distance calculations
Flexible image size up to the listed 200-inch limit Often simpler installation and potentially lower total cost around 98–115 inches

The L9Q is not a universal OLED replacement. It makes the most sense when image scale, projector-style installation and integrated sound matter more than perfect dark-scene blacks.

Who should buy the L9Q?

Good fit

  • Buyers seeking a 120–150-inch image for sports, television and HDR films.
  • Living rooms with some ambient light and a properly matched ALR/CLR screen.
  • People who want streaming, speakers and HDMI switching in one console.
  • Owners willing to accept projector-like black levels for a much larger picture.

Poor fit

  • Dark-room viewers who prioritize the deepest blacks or OLED-like contrast.
  • Gamers who require dependable 4K/120Hz input.
  • Buyers expecting the $5,999.99 projector listing to include a 150-inch screen.
  • Rooms with low furniture, limited wall height or no tolerance for alignment and lighting constraints.

Verdict

The Hisense L9Q is a premium, unusually bright RGB-laser UST system rather than a literal 150-inch TV. Its scale, integrated Devialet audio, smart features and flexible placement are compelling, while screen expense, room light, black levels and premium pricing are substantial caveats. Choose it when a huge, easy-to-live-with image outweighs the simplicity and dark-scene performance of a conventional flat panel.
