There is no reliable all-in figure without choosing a server, location, project currency, stream settings, and resource configuration. Hetzner announced price updates for new orders and server rescales from 15 June 2026, so check the live quote rather than relying on an older price table.
How to calculate a full-month cost
Use this structure:
Monthly estimate = current server monthly cap + applicable separately billed resources + applicable traffic overage + tax.
A continuous 24/7 workload generally reaches the server’s monthly price cap. Hetzner bills hourly usage up to that cap, rounds usage up to whole hours, and charges the lower applicable amount. A 24/7 schedule is not an extra multiplier on top of a full month’s cap.
The server is billed while its object exists, even if it is powered off. Deleting the server ends its server charge; simply shutting it down does not pause billing. See Hetzner’s billing FAQ.

Why there is no single current price for every stream
The compute cap depends on the server type, location, project currency, and current tariff. Other choices can add charges, including public IPs and other separately billed resources. Traffic charges depend on the applicable included allowance and any excess. Taxes also depend on the relevant tax basis.
Hetzner announced that updated Cloud prices apply to new orders and server rescales starting 15 June 2026; the announcement says existing servers are not affected unless they are rescaled. Confirm the current price for your project and location in the live price information or account quote. Do not treat an older IP price as a current quote. Hetzner’s 2022 Cloud overview listed Primary IPv4 separately at €0.50 per month excluding VAT, but that historical figure is not a current price; verify any IP charge in the live price list.
Stream settings affect bandwidth, not a guaranteed server size
YouTube’s encoder guidance requires the encoder to specify resolution, frame rate, and bitrate for a stream created in Live Control Room. It recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP. Check YouTube’s current live encoder settings guide for its bitrate recommendations, then state the resolution, frame rate, and target bitrate when estimating traffic.

The encoder sends the stream from the Hetzner machine to YouTube. A higher continuous bitrate means more outbound data, but an exact monthly transfer estimate also depends on stream duration, protocol overhead, and the plan’s current traffic terms. Without those details and a verified allowance and overage rate for the chosen plan, an exact traffic cost cannot be established.
Neither a bitrate recommendation nor a server price proves that a particular VM can encode a particular quality. That depends on the software, whether it is encoding or relaying already encoded video, and the workload. Choose a server only after checking current specifications and testing the intended setup; no specific server-to-quality match is established here.

What to compare before choosing a server
- Compute: compare current monthly caps in the same project currency and location, and distinguish shared from dedicated CPU options.
- Encoding workload: determine whether your setup must encode video in software or only relay an already encoded stream.
- Memory and storage: account for the streaming software and any local buffering or recording you plan to keep on the server.
- Network and IP: verify included outbound traffic, excess-traffic pricing, and any public IPv4 or IPv6 requirement and charge.
- Recovery: plan monitoring and restart or reconnect behavior. A server price alone does not provide end-to-end stream recovery.
- Tax: confirm whether the displayed quote includes applicable taxes for your account.
Hetzner availability is not an uninterrupted-broadcast guarantee
Hetzner’s Cloud and vServer service agreement states a 99.9% monthly availability effort for an individual Cloud Server, subject to the agreement’s definitions and exclusions. It is a provider-side VM commitment, not a guarantee that the complete YouTube broadcast will remain uninterrupted. The encoder process, source media, reconnect behavior, network path, and YouTube ingest can each affect continuity.
