A contemporaneous Talk Android report said new and returning subscribers could get discounted monthly rates through January 25, 2022; existing subscribers were excluded. The report’s figures are historical and do not establish current plan prices or offers.
What the HBO Max 20% discount for 12 months offered
Talk Android reported on January 14, 2022, that the promotion reduced the monthly price of both HBO Max plans for up to 12 months:
| Plan in the 2022 report | Reported regular monthly price | Reported promotional monthly price |
|---|---|---|
| Ad-supported | $9.99 | $7.99 |
| Ad-free | $14.99 | $11.99 |
These are the prices reported for that promotion, not a current HBO Max price list. The reduced rate was available for up to 12 months, and the offer ended January 25, 2022. Talk Android’s January 14, 2022 account is the source for the historical terms; an official copy of the 2022 promotion terms was not available in the sources cited here.
Who qualified and where the offer could be redeemed
The report described the offer as open to new and returning HBO Max subscribers, but not to people with an existing subscription. It listed HBOMax.com, Amazon, Apple, Google Play, and Roku as redemption channels. These eligibility and channel details describe the 2022 campaign only.

Is the HBO Max 20% deal still available?
No. The 2022 promotion ended on January 25, 2022. A separate U.S. campaign later offered 40% savings on prepaid yearly Basic With Ads, Standard, and Premium plans from June 18 through July 15, 2026. Warner Bros. Discovery said that offer was available through HBOMax.com, Prime Video Subscriptions, and The Roku Channel. It was a different promotion with different plans and billing, and it had also expired by October 4, 2026. Warner Bros. Discovery’s June 18, 2026 announcement describes that later offer.
The official offer-page search result for the 2026 campaign said the discounted annual fee was charged in full at enrollment and the subscription renewed yearly at the then-current price unless canceled before the next billing period. Those annual billing and renewal terms belong to the 2026 offer; they should not be assumed to have applied to the 2022 monthly promotion. HBO Max’s offer page refers to that later campaign, not a currently available deal.
