After Joan Vassos eliminated him without a rose, The Golden Bachelorette contestant Gregg Lassen said he did not think she was very interested in him. That was Gregg’s impression—not a statement from Joan about her feelings.
What Gregg said about Joan
In an Entertainment Weekly interview republished by AOL on October 4, 2024, Gregg summed up his read of their connection this way: “Truthfully, I don’t think Joan liked me that much.” He said he had quickly sensed that Joan was more interested in other men.
Gregg was eliminated when Joan did not give him a rose in the episode discussed in the interview. His explanation is his own interpretation of the relationship; the interview does not report Joan confirming that she felt that way.
How Gregg recalled their connection
Gregg, a 64-year-old retired university vice president from Florida, said he and Joan connected on their first night over a shared love of the beach. He recalled giving her a sand dollar and spending time with her in a beach setting. Their dates also included disc golf.

Those shared interests and activities did not change Gregg’s sense that other men had stronger connections with Joan. When asked which contestants seemed capable of connecting with her, he named Keith, Pascal, Chock, Jordan, and Jonathan, citing their different strengths. That was Gregg’s view at the time of the interview, not a confirmed ranking or outcome.
Gregg’s account of life in the house
The interview also described friendships among the contestants. Gregg said he was close with several men, including Pascal, Dan, and CK. He recalled offering to do laundry for his roommates; Pascal jokingly offered him $100 per load, but Gregg said he did not take payment.

What Gregg shared about dating again
Gregg said his wife had died three years earlier, after they had been married for 33 years, and that he felt ready to date again. Those details, like his reading of Joan’s interest, come from Gregg’s interview account.
