The strongest New York stops tied to Ghostbusters are locations from the 1984 film and the wider movie franchise—not ten verified places from The Real Ghostbusters cartoon. You can visit the exterior of the working Hook & Ladder Company 8 firehouse, see the New York Public Library and 55 Central Park West, and consider a handful of other franchise-connected sites with more limited evidence. Treat the list below as a practical guide to what is established, not a claim that every stop appeared in the animated series.
Which Ghostbusters locations can I visit in NYC?
New York City Tourism’s published film-location guide identifies the firehouse, the New York Public Library’s Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, and 55 Central Park West as visitable places associated with the 1984 film. Its 2024 franchise announcement also names Columbia University. A 2026 Secret NYC roundup adds Tavern on the Green to its list of film-location stops. These are not all the same kind of visit: some are public-facing attractions, while others are a working firehouse or private residential property.
The animated series and the films should not be treated as interchangeable sources. Sony identifies The Real Ghostbusters as an animated series, but the New York location records cited here chiefly concern the movies and broader franchise; they do not establish ten NYC sites specifically depicted in the cartoon. 1. Hook & Ladder Company 8, 14 N Moore Street
This working Tribeca firehouse is the recognizable exterior associated with the Ghostbusters’ headquarters. New York City Tourism describes it as a functioning firehouse, and the 2026 Secret NYC guide identifies the exterior as the headquarters façade. This is a street-side photo stop, not a guaranteed attraction with public interior admission. Keep sidewalks and the station entrance clear, and do not interrupt firefighters or emergency operations. 2. New York Public Library, Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, 476 Fifth Avenue
The library is one of the clearest film-connected public-facing stops. Secret NYC identifies its exterior with the opening sequence, and NYC Tourism includes the building among visitable film locations. It is a real library, but the location connection does not guarantee access to every room or interior area; check current visitor rules and hours with the library before planning an indoor visit. (NYC Tourism; Secret NYC)
3. 55 Central Park West
Known in the film as Spook Central, this is a private residential building associated with the movie’s apartment-building setting. View it respectfully from public space. Do not enter the building, seek resident access, or assume the roof or other private areas are open to visitors. (NYC Tourism; Secret NYC)

4. Tavern on the Green, Central Park
Secret NYC connects the restaurant near West 67th Street with a Louis Tully scene. It is a real restaurant, rather than a dedicated film attraction. Confirm that it is operating and check its current hours and reservation arrangements directly before making it part of your day. (Secret NYC)
5. Columbia University
NYC Tourism’s 2024 Ghostbusters announcement names Columbia University among real-life places connected to the films. The announcement does not identify a particular scene or a visitor route, so treat the campus as a broader franchise-linked stop rather than a precisely documented filming location. Check campus visitor policies before going. (NYC Tourism)

Which other NYC stops are worth treating cautiously?
Some locations circulate in fan lists but have weaker evidence as real-world destinations. A fan-maintained index mixes actual places, fictional settings and sites from different parts of the franchise. These names may be useful leads for further checking, but the available records do not support presenting all of them as verified, accessible NYC attractions. (Ghostbusters location index)
6. Lincoln Center
A fan-maintained index lists Lincoln Center, but the sources cited here do not corroborate a particular visitable Ghostbusters scene there. It is a major public cultural complex, yet that fact alone does not make it a verified film-location stop. Check the scene connection before adding it to a film-focused itinerary. (Fan-maintained location index)

7. Ray’s Occult Books
The fan index lists Ray’s Occult Books as a franchise place, but it does not establish a real NYC storefront with a usable address or visitor access. Do not navigate to an assumed shop or advertise it as a real-world stop on this evidence. (Fan-maintained location index)
8. Sedgewick Hotel
The hotel is associated with the franchise in the fan index, but the entry does not establish a New York counterpart that visitors can see. Without a verified real-world filming address, it is not a reliable NYC itinerary stop. (Fan-maintained location index)

9. Biltmore Hotel
The Biltmore appears in the fan index, but the cited material does not establish its precise film connection, address or current visitor access. Confirm all three before treating it as a New York destination. (Fan-maintained location index)
10. Madame Tussauds New York Ghostbusters Experience
NYC Tourism described a Ghostbusters hyperreality experience at the Times Square Madame Tussauds in a 2019 article. That is a themed experience, not a filming location, and the cited page is too old to establish that it still operates. Verify directly with the attraction before considering it a current stop. (NYC Tourism’s 2019 guide)
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Where is the Ghostbusters firehouse, and is it a working station?
Hook & Ladder Company 8 is at 14 N Moore Street in Tribeca. It is a functioning firehouse associated with the headquarters exterior, so plan only for a respectful look from the street. The cited sources do not promise interior admission or visitor facilities. Give crews and emergency vehicles room, and leave immediately if activity at the station requires clear access. (NYC Tourism)
Can you visit the Ghostbusters apartment building?
You can view 55 Central Park West from public space, but it is a private residential building, not a tourist attraction. The film connection does not grant entry or access to private areas. Keep the visit brief and avoid disturbing residents. (NYC Tourism)
Should you take a tour or plan your own route?
A self-guided route gives you control over stops, while guided walking or driving formats may help connect locations across Manhattan. New York City Tourism describes On Location Tours’ Ghostbusters option as a private two-hour tour. New York City Ghostbusters says it runs filming-location tours in walking and driving formats, including drives in its Ecto NYC vehicle. The cited pages do not establish current schedules, prices or booking availability, so verify the route and terms with the operator before relying on either option. (NYC Tourism; New York City Ghostbusters)
Quick Recap
- Ask whether the route covers the specific places you want to see.
- For a driving option, confirm which transport is included and where the tour begins and ends.
- Check walking distance and total duration against your plans.
- Ask the operator to distinguish actual filming locations from fictional settings or general franchise references.
- Confirm current booking terms and price directly; neither is established by the cited descriptions.
