Gerard Butler’s Kandahar is no longer being treated as a Tubi free-streaming title after the service’s June 2026 catalog change. For viewers in the United States, the latest availability check identifies Hulu as the current subscription option and Kanopy as a possible no-cost option for people with access through an eligible library or educational institution. The movie can also be rented or purchased digitally, or bought on DVD.
This is a platform change—not a new release. The 2023 action thriller received a major second wave of attention when it arrived on Netflix in August 2025, but the available research does not confirm that it remains on Netflix in the U.S. in August 2026.
Where to watch Kandahar in the U.S. right now
Availability changes by country, account, and date. The following options reflect a U.S. availability check updated July 26, 2026, with Hulu’s own title page also listing the movie. Streaming rights can change quickly, so viewers should verify the title in their account before subscribing or paying.
| Option | What it means |
|---|---|
| Hulu | The current subscription-streaming destination identified by the research. Hulu requires an account to begin playback; a specific plan or price should not be assumed. |
| Kanopy | Listed as free to stream, but access generally depends on a participating public library or educational institution. It is not universally free for every viewer. |
| Amazon Video | Digital rental or purchase option. |
| Apple TV Store | Digital rental or purchase option. |
| Fandango At Home | Digital rental or purchase option. |
| FlixFling | Digital rental or purchase option. |
| DVD | Physical copies are listed for purchase. Edition, seller, region, and price should be checked before ordering. |
Prices, rental windows, subscription tiers, and individual listings are volatile. The availability information above does not establish a particular price, picture format, device compatibility, or DVD edition.

What changed with Tubi?
A May 5, 2026 report said that Kandahar was leaving Tubi’s free catalog in June 2026. That report described the end of a free-streaming window, not the removal of the film from every legal service.
The exact day of the Tubi removal has not been established by the available evidence. It is therefore more accurate to say that the movie underwent a June 2026 Tubi catalog change than to claim a precise removal date. The change also does not mean that Kandahar disappeared altogether: Hulu, Kanopy, digital retailers, and DVD listings remain among the U.S. options identified in the latest check.
Is Kandahar still on Netflix?
The available research confirms a previous Netflix run, not continuing U.S. availability in 2026.
Netflix’s Tudum published a Kandahar explainer on August 15, 2025 and presented the movie as available to stream. Independent coverage reported that Netflix added the film on August 9, 2025. The title then entered Netflix’s U.S. Top 10, while engagement figures summarized from Netflix data recorded two weeks in the global Top 10 during August 2025, totaling 14.6 million viewing hours and 7.3 million completed views.

Those figures explain why the film became newly visible to a much larger streaming audience. They should not be presented as evidence that Kandahar is currently a Netflix title. The latest research does not confirm a continuing U.S. Netflix license as of August 12, 2026.
The most practical legal ways to watch
If you already subscribe to Hulu
Hulu is the clearest subscription option identified for U.S. viewers. Its official title listing describes Kandahar as a 2023 R-rated action thriller starring Gerard Butler, Navid Negahban, and Ali Fazal, with Ric Roman Waugh directing. Because Hulu’s page requires account access to begin playback, the research does not establish which specific subscription tier is required or what it costs.
If you want a free option
Check Kanopy before paying for another service. Kanopy access is commonly provided through participating public libraries and educational institutions, and eligibility rules vary. You may need a library card, institutional login, or available monthly viewing credits. “Free through Kanopy where available” is the accurate description; it should not be confused with a universally free streaming release.
If you want to watch immediately without a subscription
Digital rental or purchase listings are identified through Amazon Video, the Apple TV Store, Fandango At Home, and FlixFling. Rental and purchase are different from subscription streaming: a rental normally provides a limited viewing period, while a purchase is tied to the retailer’s digital-rights system. Check the retailer’s current terms and price at checkout.

If you want to own a physical copy
DVD listings are also available. A Kandahar DVD may be the most straightforward option for viewers who want a physical copy rather than another temporary streaming listing. Confirm the seller, region, edition, subtitles, and delivery details before buying. Owning the DVD does not provide access to a streaming version, and a DVD purchase should not be described as a subscription alternative.
What is Kandahar about?
Kandahar is a 2023 action thriller with a runtime of 119 minutes. Butler plays Tom Harris, a CIA operative stranded in hostile Afghanistan after a covert operation is exposed. His route to an extraction point becomes a moving target, with local militias, Pakistani agents, foreign spies, and other hostile forces pursuing him.
Harris is accompanied by his Afghan translator, Mohammad “Mo” Doud, played by Navid Negahban. Ali Fazal plays Pakistani agent Kahil Nasir, while Travis Fimmel plays Roman Chalmers. The film was directed by Ric Roman Waugh and written by Mitchell LaFortune.
The screenplay is loosely inspired by LaFortune’s experiences as a military-intelligence officer deployed in Afghanistan and Pakistan. That description does not mean the film is a direct retelling of a specific event, and Kandahar is not based on a book.
Cast and the team behind the film
Kandahar reunited Gerard Butler with director Ric Roman Waugh after their work together on Angel Has Fallen and Greenland. The pairing helps explain the film’s emphasis on a pressured protagonist, large-scale pursuit, and survival-driven action rather than a conventional spy mystery.

Why the movie found a second audience
Kandahar had a modest theatrical run, but its Netflix arrival in August 2025 gave it a second wave of visibility. The film’s appearance in Netflix’s U.S. Top 10, along with its two-week global Top 10 run, shows that streaming brought it to a substantially broader audience than its initial theatrical profile suggested.
That renewed attention supports calling the film a streaming-era discovery or a late-blooming action favorite for some viewers. It does not establish a permanent Netflix home, and it should not be described as a current Netflix hit in 2026 without a fresh, market-specific check.
Important availability caveats
- The information is U.S.-specific. Rights may differ in Canada, the United Kingdom, India, Australia, and other markets.
- Catalogs are temporary. Hulu, Kanopy, digital retailers, and DVD sellers can change their listings without notice.
- Kanopy is eligibility-dependent. A participating library or school may be required, and availability can vary even among eligible users.
- Tubi’s exact departure date is unconfirmed. The evidence supports a June 2026 catalog change, not a specific day.
- Netflix availability is historical in this article. The confirmed Netflix run began in August 2025; current U.S. availability was not confirmed.
- Prices and formats are not fixed facts. Check the retailer or service directly before paying.

Treat the Netflix run as 2025 history—not proof of current availability.
