Pokémon’s pattern archive

Pokémon’s pumpkin pattern archive is organized into year-based collections beginning in 2015. Its currently surfaced listing names Mega Altaria, Mega Gardevoir, Mega Kangaskhan, and Mega Sableye as new for 2025. The archive’s direct page could not be confirmed, so check the page to see which individual files are available before choosing one.

Choose a pattern that fits your pumpkin

Match the printed design to the pumpkin rather than choosing by character alone. Pokémon advises that some patterns need a wider surface while others work better on a taller pumpkin. Also consider how intricate the outline is: a bold, simple cutout is a more straightforward project, while fine lines call for greater precision. Pokémon notes that a wood-carving kit may help with fine details compared with traditional pumpkin-carving tools.

  • Check the proportions: Compare the design’s overall shape with the pumpkin’s broadest and tallest areas.
  • Consider the detail: If you are carving with children or are new to the project, a less intricate outline may be easier to transfer and cut.
  • Decide whether to carve: Paint and other decorations let you use a Pokémon design without cutting the pumpkin.

How to transfer and carve a stencil

Play Nintendo’s instructions use a printed pattern, pin marks, and a small carving saw. Keep scissors and sharp tools with an adult; children should ask a grown-up to help.

  1. Print and trim: Print the stencil and cut around it, leaving a ½-inch border so there is paper to tape to the pumpkin.
  2. Prepare the pumpkin: Cut a lid and scoop out the inside.
  3. Attach the pattern: Tape the stencil onto the pumpkin, positioning the design where you want it.
  4. Mark the outline: Carefully poke holes along the pattern guidelines, about 1/8 inch apart.
  5. Remove the paper: Take off the stencil and tape, keeping the pin marks visible.
  6. Cut and tidy: Follow the dotted outline with a carving saw, then use carving tools to smooth rough spots.

A pumpkin carving kit or small carving saw is optional; the patterns themselves are free. Use tools appropriate to the cutter’s age and skill, and have an adult handle sharp tools when children are involved.

Decorate without carving—or choose a display light

If you would rather avoid sharp tools, use the stencil as inspiration for a painted design. Pokémon suggests paint, glow-in-the-dark paint, and rhinestones as alternatives to carving. For pumpkins displayed outdoors, consider whether wildlife might eat them and avoid decorating materials that could be toxic to animals.

For a carved pumpkin, Play Nintendo suggests a glow stick, a battery-powered light, or a candle with adult permission. A battery-powered option avoids an open flame; follow the light’s instructions and keep candles under adult supervision.
