Four documentaries previewed ahead of the third anniversary of the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack approach its aftermath through distinct lives: women displaced from Kibbutz Kfar Aza, hostage Eden Yerushalmi and those who grieved her, soldiers serving in Gaza, and former hostage Yelena Trufanov’s return to Kibbutz Nir Oz to feed abandoned cats. Together, they turn loss, displacement, memory and the effort to rebuild into intimate stories rather than a single account.

Four films, four vantage points

The Times of Israel’s September 25, 2026 preview described four films scheduled or available around the attack’s third anniversary. Their subjects range from a displaced community to one family’s bereavement, soldiers’ private reflections and a survivor’s care for animals left behind.

These are source-reported runtimes and listings, not confirmation of current access. The original preview did not establish present availability or international access.

Where Do We Belong: a displaced community weighs return

Directed by Dotan Nave and produced by Igal Hecht, the 100-minute film follows ten women connected to Kibbutz Kfar Aza. They gather while displaced, first at Kibbutz Shefayim and later as their community moves to Kibbutz Ruhama. Their conversations address bereavement, the question of returning and whether they can regain a sense of who they were before October 7.

#1 Best Overall

The focus is not simply on a place left behind. It is on the bonds and identities that displacement unsettles, and on the uncertainty of rebuilding a shared life. The September 2026 preview listed a HOT Channel 8 broadcast for October 5 and screenings in Haifa, Holon, Tel Aviv, Rosh Pina, Pardes Hanna, Toronto and Vancouver between October 5 and 9; those dated listings do not establish where the film can be watched now.

Find Me, Okay?: a family’s search and grief

Directed by Yula Gidron and produced by Hilla Medalia, the 80-minute documentary follows Eden Yerushalmi and her friend Arbel at the Nova desert rave, Yerushalmi’s abduction, and the efforts of her family and friend to secure her return. It also follows their grief after her death in captivity.

The film’s perspective moves from the events around Yerushalmi to the people left searching and mourning. The Times of Israel reported a Reshet 13 broadcast listing for October 5, 2026. It also reported that the film received the GWFF award for Best Israeli Debut Feature at the Jerusalem Film Festival in July 2026.

Good Morning Gaza: soldiers speak through a tank-unit podcast

This 52-minute documentary, associated with tank commander and artist Matan Sacofsky, uses a tank unit’s podcast as a route into soldiers’ inner lives during the aftermath of October 7 and the Gaza war. Its vantage point differs from the civilian and family stories in the other films: it listens to soldiers reflecting from within their unit.

The September 2026 preview reported the film on Yes VOD and in selected theaters, but did not name theater locations or establish whether either option remains available.

Choo-Cha: returning to care for cats left behind

Filmmaker Gregory Bado’s 15-minute film follows Yelena Trufanov, a former hostage who returned to Kibbutz Nir Oz after her release to feed the cats left behind. Bado documented her for about two years, through the return of her son Sasha from captivity in February 2025.

The film’s small, recurring act of care places a survivor’s return in the same frame as the animals and community affected by the attack. An expanded version was in progress when the article appeared on September 25, 2026; that report does not establish its later release or a viewing venue.

What the films share—and what they keep distinct

All four films attend to consequences that continue beyond the attack itself, but they do not tell interchangeable stories. Where Do We Belong asks how women from a displaced community might recover home and identity. Find Me, Okay? follows a particular hostage’s abduction and the bereavement of those close to her. Good Morning Gaza looks inward at soldiers through their unit’s podcast. Choo-Cha follows one survivor’s return and the care she offers to abandoned cats.
