Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields is a two-part 2023 documentary directed by Lana Wilson. It follows Shields’s childhood fame and the sexualization she experienced in public, and includes her account of a sexual assault after college. Hulu currently lists the documentary as one season with two episodes; check Hulu’s catalog for availability where you live.
What is Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields about?
The documentary traces Shields’s public life, from her childhood as a model and actor through her effort to claim her own identity and voice. Hulu describes it as a journey from being sexualized as a young girl to embracing that voice (Hulu’s series listing).
It examines how entertainment media and interviewers treated Shields’s sexuality as a commodity while also judging and shaming her for it. It also explores her complicated relationship with her mother, Teri Shields. The title refers to Louis Malle’s 1978 film Pretty Baby, in which Shields appeared at age 11; the film and its promotion form part of the documentary’s account of how she was sexualized in public. The documentary addresses this material critically rather than as spectacle.
What does Brooke Shields reveal?
Shields says that shortly after graduating from college, she was sexually assaulted by someone she knew professionally. The Associated Press reported that she described freezing during the assault and later struggling to recognize what had happened as rape. AP did not identify the person, and Shields did not name him in the film as described in its report. These details are her account as reported by AP, not an independently established finding about the unnamed person (Associated Press report from the Sundance premiere).

Where can you watch Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields?
Hulu currently lists the series. Its U.S. streaming premiere was April 3, 2023. At the time, ABC News Studios announced Star+ availability in Latin America and Disney+ internationally; that was the original distribution plan, not a guarantee of current availability in any country. Check the official Hulu catalog and the streaming services available in your region for the current listing and subscription terms. The official trailer, published by ABC News, announced the original Hulu premiere.
Is the documentary a complete account of Shields’s life?
No. The film focuses on selected parts of Shields’s public life and her experience of sexualization; it is not a comprehensive biography. AP noted that some material covered in Shields’s memoirs is not included. Director Lana Wilson told AP, “She was ready to go there.” That comment describes Shields’s willingness to discuss difficult subjects, not a claim that the film covers everything.
