Longdue Games is developing Hopetown, a narrative RPG described as a spiritual successor to Disco Elysium. The project is not Disco Elysium 2: it has a different setting and premise, and reporting at the time of its announcement said the original game’s leads Robert Kurvitz and Aleksander Rostov were not involved.
Who is making Hopetown?
Longdue Games announced its formation in October 2024 alongside plans for an unnamed psychogeographic RPG focused on narrative. In March 2025, the studio revealed that the game was called Hopetown and released a teaser. GameSpot’s October 2024 report and The Guardian’s report the following day identified the project as a spiritual successor, not a continuation of the original game.

Longdue said that nine people who had worked on Disco Elysium had contributed to Hopetown as of March 2025, according to VentureBeat’s March 11, 2025 report. VentureBeat also reported that narrator Lenval Brown would voice a key character and that Martin Luiga had joined the team to work on narrative and systems. That establishes involvement by some former contributors, not the return of the original development team as a whole.
Why it is a spiritual successor, not Disco Elysium 2
“Spiritual successor” signals an intended creative lineage: a new work drawing on qualities associated with an earlier game, rather than a direct sequel. The cited coverage reported that Robert Kurvitz and Aleksander Rostov were not involved in Longdue’s project; GameSpot also reported that ZA/UM had nothing to do with it. Gematsu’s October 2024 coverage quoted Longdue narrative director Grant Roberts describing the studio’s aim as “another narrative-first, psychological RPG, where the interplay between inner worlds and external landscapes is the beating heart of the experience.”

- Disco Elysium - The Final Cut is the definitive edition of the groundbreaking role playing game
- Interrogate unforgettable characters, crack murders, or take bribes
- Become a hero or an absolute disaster of a human being - it's all up to you
- Countless tools for roleplaying, a revolutionary dialog system, and an unprecedented freedom of choice found in the base game
- Adds new quests, and for the first time is fully voice acted
That phrase describes the creative ambition, not a confirmed connection to Disco Elysium’s fictional world. The available announcements present Hopetown as its own project; they do not establish shared characters, setting, or continuity.
What Hopetown is about
Longdue’s March 2025 description places the game in a mining town and casts the player as a rogue journalist. Its announced concepts connect the protagonist’s reporting choices to the story and the world:
Rank #2
- Psychogeography: Longdue describes emotions, memories, and conversations as possible ways to interact with the world.
- Journalism: The studio says players can shape stories through different reporting styles.
These are the studio’s announced design ideas, not independently verified hands-on features. The description points toward a role-playing game built around interpretation and storytelling, but it does not yet specify how particular choices work in play.

The public information cited here confirms Longdue as the studio, Hopetown as the project’s announced title, and a premise centered on journalism in a mining town. It does not establish a current release date, platforms, or a current production milestone. VentureBeat reported that a Kickstarter launch was announced for March 17, 2025; that historical announcement is not evidence of the campaign’s present status or of a release schedule.

For comparison, the strongest confirmed parallels with Disco Elysium are the narrative-first, psychological RPG ambition and the participation of some people who worked on the earlier game. The available reporting does not support treating Hopetown as a sequel, assuming the original leads are involved, or predicting how closely its finished gameplay will resemble its predecessor.
