Flight Ready is a roughly 14-minute Apple Immersive Video documentary about flight operations aboard the USS Nimitz and F/A-18 Super Hornet aircraft. It is watched through the Apple TV app on Apple Vision Pro and was reported as free for Vision Pro users when released on November 11, 2025.
It is not a playable F-18 flight simulator. The experience puts you close to carrier-deck activity, aircraft launches and landings, crew operations, and aerial views—but the available descriptions do not establish a complete cockpit ride-along, pilot-eye HUD view, or any user control of the aircraft.
What is Flight Ready?
Flight Ready is a standalone short documentary produced for Apple Vision Pro’s Apple Immersive Video format. It premiered on Veterans Day, November 11, 2025, and runs for approximately 14 minutes.

The film focuses on the people and aircraft involved in carrier aviation aboard the USS Nimitz. Coverage identifies the jets as F/A-18 Super Hornets; “F-18” is common shorthand, but the longer designation is more precise. Picture North identifies filmmaker Henry Behel in its production material (Picture North).

Apple distributes the film through the Apple TV app on Apple Vision Pro. Reports from 9to5Mac and UploadVR described it as available at no additional charge to Vision Pro users at launch. Catalog placement, regional access, and pricing can change, so treat that availability as time-sensitive.
What does the film actually show?
Based on the available descriptions, the documentary is built around the atmosphere and scale of a working aircraft carrier rather than a simulated sortie. Reported elements include:
- the USS Nimitz flight deck;
- carrier personnel preparing, directing, launching, and recovering aircraft;
- F/A-18 Super Hornets taking off and landing;
- views around the ship’s island and tower;
- aerial shots of the carrier at sea; and
- aircraft passing close to the camera position or flying near the ship.
That distinction matters. Promotional phrases such as “launch in an F-18” can sound like a cockpit experience, but the evidence supports a documentary about carrier operations and aerial aviation—not the experience of piloting a fighter.

Is this VR, 3D video, or augmented reality?
The most accurate description is Apple Immersive Video viewed through Apple Vision Pro. It is passive video: you watch the film rather than control an aircraft or explore a game world.

Apple describes Immersive Video as stereoscopic, large-field-of-view video designed for visionOS. Its consumer explanation describes 180-degree 3D capture, 8K video, and Spatial Audio (Apple’s developer documentation; Apple Vision Pro).
In practical terms, that makes Flight Ready different from several things often grouped under “VR”:

Apple’s format description also refers to 8K capture or delivery. That does not mean the film appears as an ordinary 8K television image; the specification belongs to the immersive presentation and should not be treated as a direct comparison with a conventional screen.

Is there cockpit footage?
Do not buy or watch Flight Ready expecting a complete pilot’s-eye flight. Available coverage confirms carrier-deck, tower, launch, landing, and aerial footage, but it does not establish that the camera remains inside an operational F/A-18 cockpit for an entire sortie.

There is also no evidence that the viewer receives a functional HUD view, performs takeoff or landing procedures, or controls the aircraft. Viewer discussion has specifically raised the gap between the “launch in an F-18” expectation and the amount of cockpit or pilot-seat footage actually shown (viewer discussion). The safe expectation is to see carrier aviation at unusually close range, not to become the pilot.
How to watch Flight Ready
- Put on an Apple Vision Pro.
- Open the Apple TV app.
- Go to the Vision or Apple Immersive content area.
- Search for Flight Ready if it is not featured on the home screen.
- Start the film.
The full immersive presentation requires Vision Pro. The available reports do not confirm an equivalent 2D version for iPhone, iPad, Mac, or ordinary televisions. Apple also notes that immersive-content availability can vary by country or region, and your Apple Account or store region may affect what appears in the catalog. Check the current Apple TV catalog in your location before making a purchase decision.
If you do not own the headset, an Apple Store Vision Pro demonstration is the sensible first step. Apple advertises one-on-one demonstrations and specialist assistance through its Vision Pro buying page. A store cannot necessarily guarantee that the exact film will be featured during every appointment, so ask when booking.

- Apple Vision Pro: it is the required device for the Apple Immersive Video version.
- An Apple Account and supported region: access depends on Apple’s current catalog and regional availability.
- Prescription correction if needed: Vision Pro is intended to be used without ordinary glasses. ZEISS Optical Inserts may be required; Apple’s shop has listed inserts at $99, but prescription eligibility, compatibility, and final pricing should be checked on the live store page (Apple Vision Pro shop).
- A charged battery: Apple’s current product information lists up to 2.5 hours of general use and up to 3 hours of video playback. Actual runtime varies.
- A comfortable fit: an incorrect Light Seal or poor fit can reduce comfort and immersion. Prescription inserts can also affect Light Seal compatibility.
Watch seated, especially if aerial movement or aircraft passing close to the camera makes you uncomfortable. Take a break or stop immediately if you experience nausea, eye strain, dizziness, or disorientation. Do not walk around hazardous areas while immersed in the headset.

Does Flight Ready justify buying Vision Pro?
No—not as a standalone reason. A 14-minute documentary is too short to rationalize buying an expensive spatial-computing headset by itself. The case becomes more reasonable if you already want Vision Pro for its broader combination of immersive films, 3D movies, spatial photos and videos, Apple TV content, Mac Virtual Display, and other spatial-computing applications. Apple presents Vision Pro as that broader platform rather than merely a video player (Apple’s product page).

The current hardware context also matters: Apple’s product page presents a newer M5-powered Vision Pro model. Because hardware, pricing, availability, and software catalogs can change, consult Apple’s live buying page immediately before purchasing rather than relying on an older price or specification.

If your priority is the subject rather than Apple’s presentation technology, a conventional carrier-aviation documentary or standard video will be easier to access and watch on ordinary screens. It will not reproduce the stereoscopic scale, broad field of view, or spatial audio of Apple Immersive Video.
If your priority is interaction, look at PC VR flight simulation or other aviation games. Those systems are designed around controls, cockpits, aircraft systems, repeatable sorties, and user decisions. They are not substitutes for Flight Ready as a cinematic documentary, and Flight Ready is not a substitute for them.

Meta Quest is a stronger category fit for many people seeking standalone interactive VR gaming, while PlayStation VR2 is aimed at PlayStation 5 owners. Neither should be presented as an equivalent player for Apple’s Immersive Video catalog (Meta Quest; PlayStation VR2).
The verdict
Flight Ready is best understood as a short, cinematic carrier-aviation showcase. It brings viewers close to the USS Nimitz, its crews, and operating F/A-18 Super Hornets through Apple’s stereoscopic immersive-video format. That can be impressive even without a cockpit ride-along—but it remains a passive film, not a flight simulator, military training tool, or interactive VR experience.
For existing Vision Pro owners, it is an easy recommendation. For everyone else, try it during an Apple Store demo and judge it as one part of the wider Vision Pro ecosystem. Buying the headset for this one film alone is difficult to justify.
