Check each point before changing equipment or blaming the network. The cause is not established until you compare them.
1. Check whether the lesson files are silent
Play each affected lesson locally, listening to the end of one video and the start of the next. If you can, compare the same moments in the stream’s local archive. Check whether the gap is silence within a file or a pause introduced by the playlist or transition.
- If the file itself is silent at that point, edit or replace it, or adjust its ending or the transition. An encoder cannot restore audio that is absent from its source.
- If the files play continuously with sound locally, continue to the encoder checks. That observation alone does not identify the cause.
2. Check the encoder’s outgoing audio
Watch the encoder’s audio meter while a lesson plays and through the silent boundary. Confirm that the expected audio source remains active, is routed to the outgoing stream, and is assigned to the track being sent. Do not assume that a visible video output means audio is being sent too.
In YouTube Live Control Room, inspect stream-health messages. YouTube identifies “Your encoder is sending no audio” as an encoder-side issue and advises providing one audio stream and enabling audio in encoders that have an audio checkbox: Live streaming error messages.

YouTube’s standard ingestion guidance lists H.264 video and AAC audio and calls for a single audio stream. Check those settings if Live Control Room reports an encoding error; otherwise, start with the audio source, routing, and meter rather than changing codecs without evidence.
3. Compare the preview, archive, and public player
Check the Live Control Room preview before and during the affected transition, then compare it with the encoder’s local archive and the public YouTube player. YouTube advises testing the setup, previewing before going live, and continuously monitoring audio and video quality: Streaming tips.

- If the preview or archive is silent too, investigate the source files or encoder routing.
- If the preview and archive have sound but the public player does not, try playback on another supported device. If the problem persists, use YouTube’s feedback path. The available guidance does not establish that YouTube itself caused this kind of gap.
YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking encoder output, Live Dashboard errors, CPU load, the local archive, and the outbound connection. If the source and routing appear healthy but the problem continues, it suggests trying a different encoder.
4. Check the network only if the symptoms point to it
Silence specifically between videos is not, by itself, evidence of a network problem. Look at connection health if audio gaps occur alongside dropped frames, stuttering, buffering, or disconnections. OBS describes dropped frames and intermittent disconnections as connection problems between the computer and the remote ingest server; its troubleshooting guide recommends checking the server selection and lowering bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it: OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting.

If those connection symptoms are present, check the encoder’s stream-health indicators and connection settings. Avoid lowering bitrate or changing servers as a first response to an audio-only gap at lesson boundaries.
5. Hold off on buying audio equipment
A cable, headset, mixer, or audio interface is not a proven fix for this symptom. YouTube recommends checking connected hardware and encoder configuration, but the right equipment depends on the setup: Streaming tips and Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. Consider replacing or adding hardware only if the source, meter, routing, and connections point to a faulty or missing component.
