Use chronological story order for a rewatch. The only major change is The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, which moves from third in release order to after Fast & Furious 6 in the story timeline.
For a first-time viewer, watch the Fast & Furious movies in theatrical release order. That preserves the way the characters, tone, and increasingly interconnected story were introduced. If you are rewatching the saga and want the story’s internal chronology, use the chronological order instead—the main difference is where The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift belongs.
Fast & Furious movies in release order
This is the best order for most viewers:
- The Fast and the Furious (2001)
- 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
- The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)
- Fast & Furious (2009)
- Fast Five (2011)
- Fast & Furious 6 (2013)
- Furious 7 (2015)
- The Fate of the Furious (2017)
- Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) — optional spin-off
- F9: The Fast Saga (2021)
- Fast X (2023)
Universal’s official 10-movie collection confirms the ten mainline films through Fast X. Hobbs & Shaw is not included because it is a separate spin-off.
One-box option for the main saga
If you want a physical set covering the ten mainline films, Universal lists the Fast & Furious 10-movie collection in 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray formats. It does not include Hobbs & Shaw or the forthcoming Fast Forever.
Fast & Furious movies in chronological story order
For a rewatch based on the story’s timeline, use this order:
#1 Best Overall
- Brand New in box. The product ships with all relevant accessories
- The Fast and the Furious (2001)
- 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
- Fast & Furious (2009)
- Fast Five (2011)
- Fast & Furious 6 (2013)
- The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)
- Furious 7 (2015)
- The Fate of the Furious (2017)
- Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) — optional
- F9: The Fast Saga (2021)
- Fast X (2023)
The unusual part is the switch involving Tokyo Drift. Although it was released third, later films establish that its main events take place after Fast & Furious 6 and before the relevant continuation in Furious 7. That is why it moves from position three in release order to position six in chronological order. The chronology is an adjustment made by the evolving franchise, not a mistake in the list.
Where does Hobbs & Shaw fit?
Watch Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw after The Fate of the Furious and before F9: The Fast Saga. That placement works in both release order and chronological order.
However, it is the first stand-alone film rather than one of the ten mainline saga entries. Universal describes it as a separate adventure centered on Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw. You can skip it if you only want the Dom-and-family storyline; the main plot continues from The Fate of the Furious to F9 without requiring the spin-off. Include it if you want the broadest live-action Fast & Furious film experience.

Fast Forever is not part of the currently released watch list. Universal’s official movie page lists it for theatrical release on March 17, 2028. Once it is released, add it after Fast X for either a release-order or chronological marathon. The release date may change, so check Universal’s page for the latest information rather than treating it as an available film today.
Which order should you choose?
| Viewer | Best choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| First-time viewer | Release order | It preserves the franchise’s introductions, reveals, and changing style. |
| Returning fan | Chronological order | It places Tokyo Drift within the later-established timeline. |
| Only interested in the main saga | Ten mainline films | Skip Hobbs & Shaw without losing the central Dom-and-family plot. |
| Want every live-action film | Release order with Hobbs & Shaw | It gives you the complete currently released film lineup. |
How many Fast & Furious movies are there?
There are currently ten mainline films, ending with Fast X, plus the optional spin-off Hobbs & Shaw. That makes eleven released live-action films connected to the franchise’s film universe. Fast Forever is the announced next film, but it has not yet joined the completed watch list.
Should you watch the films on a particular streaming service?
There is no single streaming recommendation here because availability changes by country, subscription service, and date. Search for each exact title in your local services, or use a current regional availability guide. A physical collection is the more stable option if you want to watch the mainline films without relying on changing streaming rights.

Why is Tokyo Drift not third in chronological order?
Place it after Fast & Furious 6 and before Furious 7. Later films establish that Tokyo Drift takes place later in the story than its 2006 release position suggests.
Do I need to watch Hobbs & Shaw?
Yes, but it is optional. Hobbs & Shaw is a stand-alone spin-off, so you can skip it and still follow the ten-film mainline saga.
