Universal Pictures has officially titled the next mainline Fast & Furious movie Fast Forever and currently lists it for release in U.S. theaters on March 17, 2028. The film is commonly called Fast & Furious 11 because it follows the 10 mainline movies through Fast X. It can also be described as the franchise’s 12th theatrical film when the spin-off Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is included.
Fast Forever is the official title
The next mainline entry in Universal’s Fast & Furious film saga is officially titled Fast Forever. Universal Pictures’ current film listing gives the movie a U.S. theatrical date of March 17, 2028.
That makes Fast Forever the direct follow-up to 2023’s Fast X, which ended with several major storylines unresolved. Universal’s listing confirms the title and current theatrical date, but it does not yet provide a full synopsis, complete cast announcement, or detailed production page.
When will Fast Forever be released?
Fast Forever is currently scheduled to open in U.S. theaters on March 17, 2028. This is the date listed by Universal Pictures as of August 12, 2026. It should be treated as the studio’s current target rather than an immovable guarantee: theatrical release dates can change during production or distribution planning.

Why some sources call it the 11th film and others call it the 12th
The numbering difference is a matter of counting, not a disagreement about which movie is being announced.
Fast Forever is the 11th mainline Fast & Furious movie:
- The Fast and the Furious (2001)
- 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
- The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)
- Fast & Furious (2009)
- Fast Five (2011)
- Fast & Furious 6 (2013)
- Furious 7 (2015)
- The Fate of the Furious (2017)
- F9: The Fast Saga (2021)
- Fast X (2023)
- Fast Forever (scheduled)
Universal and Peacock-related announcements may refer to it as the franchise’s 12th film because they count the 2019 theatrical spin-off Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. The clearest wording is therefore: Fast Forever is Fast & Furious 11, or the 12th theatrical film including Hobbs & Shaw.

Current studio and trade coverage positions Fast Forever as the concluding chapter of the primary film saga. Peacock’s announcement and contemporary reporting have described it as the final main franchise movie, while Vin Diesel has also referred to it as the 11th and final film.

That does not necessarily mean the wider Fast & Furious brand will disappear. A television project is in development for Peacock, and Universal could continue developing spin-offs or other franchise extensions. The theatrical story centered on the main saga and the broader franchise universe are not the same thing.
How Fast X sets up the sequel
Fast X was marketed as the beginning of the end of the saga and concluded on a cliffhanger. Its ending left the family’s situation and several major conflicts unresolved, creating the narrative setup for Fast Forever.
However, the official information currently available does not confirm the sequel’s detailed plot. There is no fully published synopsis establishing the locations, the exact threat, or how every storyline from Fast X will be resolved.
Cast, director, and writers: what is actually confirmed?
Louis Leterrier, who directed Fast X, is associated with the project in current industry databases and movie listings. Universal’s current official film page does not yet publish a complete final crew listing, so his involvement should be described as reported or associated rather than treated as a fully detailed studio production announcement.
Christina Hodson and Oren Uziel were previously reported as writers on the sequel project. Later reporting has referred to additional script work and development changes. Because the public information is not fully consistent, it is premature to describe them as the final writing team without a newer confirmation from Universal or a consistently authoritative trade source.

The film’s returning cast also should not be presented as completely confirmed based only on franchise expectations. The strongest available sources do not establish that every Fast X cast member will return.
Has filming finished?
There is no sufficient confirmation here that Fast Forever has completed filming, locked its final screenplay, or entered a final post-production phase. A behind-the-scenes item shared by Vin Diesel and reported in July 2026 supports the conclusion that the project remains in active development, but it does not prove that the shoot is complete or that the March 2028 date cannot move.
That distinction matters because release-date announcements can precede final production milestones. The reliable takeaway is the title and Universal’s current U.S. theatrical target—not a claim that the movie is finished.
Will Brian O’Conner or Paul Walker appear?
No strong confirmation reviewed for this article establishes a Paul Walker or Brian O’Conner appearance in Fast Forever. Claims about a new appearance, archival footage, digital recreation, or a story role should be treated as rumor unless Universal or a highly authoritative source confirms the specific plan.
The same caution applies to precise claims about the film’s setting, villain, ending, or the return of individual characters. The official title and date are confirmed; those additional details are not.

Is there a new Fast & Furious TV series?
Peacock has announced that a Fast & Furious television series is in development. The announcement demonstrates that NBCUniversal is exploring the franchise beyond theatrical films, but it does not confirm that the series shares Fast Forever’s plot, cast, characters, or release schedule.
No premiere date or confirmed streaming window for the series has been established in the research available for this article. Readers should not assume that the television project will arrive before the movie or that it will explain the ending of Fast X.
What to watch before Fast Forever
Viewers who want to revisit the main saga can use the Fast & Furious 10-Movie Collection Blu-ray. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment confirms that the collection contains the ten mainline films through Fast X and is offered in physical formats. It does not include Fast Forever, which has not yet been released.
The collection is the most direct catch-up option because it follows the mainline story rather than adding the separate Hobbs & Shaw spin-off. Viewers who want the complete theatrical franchise can watch that spin-off separately between the mainline entries according to their preferred viewing order.

The franchise’s car culture also continues through licensed collectibles. Mattel’s Hot Wheels Fast & Furious 5-Pack contains five 1:64-scale die-cast vehicles inspired by cars from the movies. It is a merchandise option for collectors, but it has no bearing on the film’s release date or story.
Licensed miniature vehicles from the franchise are also produced by companies such as Kyosho. Specific models and retailer inventory are volatile, so shoppers should verify the exact vehicle, licensing, scale, and current availability before buying.
