Hunter x Hunter has already returned. Yoshihiro Togashi’s manga resumed with Chapter 411 in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 31, released in Japan on June 29, 2026. VIZ lists the chapter’s North American release as June 28 because of the simultaneous-release schedule and time-zone difference.
As of August 11, 2026, Chapter 417 is the latest chapter publicly available. The manga remains in the Succession Contest arc aboard the Black Whale, and there is still no confirmed announcement for a continuation of the 2011 anime.
The short answer
If you are asking whether Hunter x Hunter is coming back, the answer is no longer “maybe” or “soon.” The manga returned in June 2026 and had reached Chapter 417 by the August 11 research cutoff.
- Return chapter: Chapter 411
- Japanese publication: Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 31, June 29, 2026
- English publication: VIZ lists Chapter 411 for June 28, 2026
- Latest available chapter at the cutoff: Chapter 417
- Current storyline: The Succession Contest aboard the Black Whale
- Anime continuation: Not officially announced
The important qualification is that this is not a return to uninterrupted weekly serialization. Hunter x Hunter is continuing under a publication arrangement designed around Togashi’s health and working conditions, so future chapters should not be assumed to arrive every week.

When did Hunter x Hunter return?
Shueisha announced the manga’s return in June 2026. Chapter 411 appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 31, which was released in Japan on June 29.
English-language readers saw a June 28 listing from VIZ’s official Shonen Jump service. That earlier calendar date does not indicate that the English edition skipped ahead; it reflects the simultaneous international release schedule and the time-zone difference between Japan and North America.
The return followed the hiatus that began after Chapter 410 was published in December 2024. That gap lasted roughly a year and a half, making the June 2026 publication one of the most significant developments in the series’ long and interruption-heavy release history.
What is the latest Hunter x Hunter chapter?
Chapter 417 is the latest chapter publicly available as of August 11, 2026. Official-release discussion and reporting for Chapter 417 appeared on August 9.

That is a schedule expectation, not a completed release at the August 11 cutoff. Readers should distinguish between:
- Officially released chapters: material listed or distributed by Shueisha, VIZ, or another authorized publisher.
- Expected chapters: chapters suggested by magazine schedules, production reports, or industry coverage.
- Leaks and fan discussion: unofficial material that should not be treated as a confirmed publication record.
That distinction matters especially for Hunter x Hunter, where production updates and magazine scheduling do not always translate into a conventional weekly release pattern.

Is Hunter x Hunter returning weekly?
Probably not in the ordinary sense of a manga appearing every week without interruption. Earlier editorial reporting stated that Shueisha and Togashi had discussed continuing the series in a format other than standard weekly serialization because of the burden involved. Coverage of the 2026 return has also continued to reference Togashi’s health challenges.
The practical meaning is that new chapters may arrive in groups or scheduled blocks, but the series remains vulnerable to pauses caused by production capacity, health, editorial planning, and Weekly Shonen Jump’s publication calendar.

They do not independently establish when a chapter will be published. A completed manuscript, a progress post, and an official magazine release are three different milestones.
How many chapters are expected in the current return?
The widely reported expectation is that the current return will cover a block numbered Chapters 411 through 420. That does not mean every chapter in that range had been officially released by August 11, nor does it guarantee that the entire block will appear without another interruption.
One forward-looking schedule report placed Chapter 420 on September 6, 2026. That date should be read as a projected schedule rather than a confirmed publication fact at the research cutoff. The safest summary is:
| Chapter or range | Status as of August 11, 2026 |
|---|---|
| 411 | Confirmed return chapter; released in June 2026 |
| 417 | Latest publicly available chapter indicated by August 9 reporting |
| 418 | Expected around August 22; not yet officially released at the cutoff |
| 411–420 | Reported or expected current return block, subject to publication scheduling |
| 420 | Some schedule reporting projected September 6; forward-looking, not completed at the cutoff |
Shueisha controls the final publication timetable. Even if Togashi has completed work on chapters, that alone cannot guarantee that each chapter will appear on a particular date.

What story is Hunter x Hunter covering now?
The manga is still deep in the Succession Contest arc, taking place aboard the Black Whale. The current material is not a return to the earlier structure centered primarily on Gon and Killua traveling from one adventure to the next.
The story currently gives substantial attention to:
- the rival princes competing in the Kakin Empire’s succession conflict;
- their bodyguards and shifting alliances;
- the rules and consequences of the Nen-based succession ritual;
- Kurapika’s attempts to protect Prince Woble and navigate the political crisis;
- the mafia factions operating aboard the Black Whale;
- espionage, assassination attempts, information warfare, and overlapping Nen abilities.
This makes the current arc unusually demanding to follow. Characters can have several identities, objectives, alliances, and Nen conditions in play at once, while events among the princes, bodyguards, royal forces, and mafia groups affect one another. The return therefore continues the existing political and psychological storyline rather than resetting the series for a simpler adventure.
Where should returning readers begin?
Readers who stopped after Chapter 410 can resume directly with Chapter 411 through VIZ’s official Shonen Jump service.
Recommended Free Tools
For readers who remember only the broad outline, revisiting at least Chapters 400–410 is the most useful preparation. Those chapters provide the immediate context for the current developments and refresh the web of Nen abilities, royal succession rules, bodyguard responsibilities, mafia conflicts, and Kurapika’s role.
Readers who want a more comprehensive refresher may prefer to return to the beginning of the Succession Contest material rather than relying on a short summary. There is no publisher-mandated catch-up order; the recommendation to revisit Chapters 400–410 is simply the most efficient route for someone who stopped immediately before the hiatus ended.
For physical readers, Hunter x Hunter Volume 39 is also relevant to the current return, with Japanese release activity reported around June 29, 2026. Language editions, retailers, availability, and release dates can differ by territory, so readers should verify the edition before buying.
Does the manga’s return mean the anime is coming back?
No. The manga’s return is not an anime announcement.

As of August 11, 2026, no verified announcement had identified a studio, production committee, season or episode count, broadcaster, streaming service, or release date for a continuation of the 2011 Hunter x Hunter television anime.
The existing anime adaptation concluded before the manga’s current Succession Contest material was far enough along to support a straightforward continuation. The manga is also still unfinished and publishing irregularly. Those circumstances make a long anime production difficult to schedule without the adaptation risking another stop, but this is an informed explanation rather than an official statement that an anime continuation will never happen.
Fans can rewatch the existing 2011 anime while waiting, but any service availability depends on territory, licensing, and the date of viewing. A rewatch is not evidence that a new season has been commissioned.

What readers should expect next
The most reasonable expectation is continued publication from the current chapter block, with dates affected by normal magazine breaks and the series’ nonstandard production model. Readers should expect uncertainty after the currently reported run rather than assume that Chapter 420 will lead immediately into uninterrupted serialization.
Three rules are useful when following future updates:
- Check the official distributor listing. A chapter is confirmed when Shueisha, VIZ, or another authorized release channel lists or publishes it.
- Separate production news from release news. Togashi’s progress reports can indicate ongoing work but cannot guarantee a date.
- Treat schedule forecasts as provisional. Magazine breaks and editorial decisions can change expected dates.

Is Chapter 418 of Hunter x Hunter out yet?
Not according to the August 11, 2026 cutoff used here. Chapter 418 was expected around August 22 because of a Weekly Shonen Jump break week, but that was a projected timing rather than a completed official release.
Will there be a new season of the Hunter x Hunter anime?
No continuation has been officially confirmed. There was no verified announcement naming a studio, broadcaster, streaming service, episode count, or release date for a follow-up to the 2011 anime as of August 11, 2026.
Where should I start reading after Chapter 410?
Start with Chapter 411 through VIZ’s official Shonen Jump service. If you need a refresher, revisit Chapters 400–410 first; the current story depends on its dense network of princes, bodyguards, Nen abilities, succession rules, and mafia factions.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Hunter x Hunter is no longer merely preparing to return. The manga resumed with Chapter 411 in June 2026 and had reached Chapter 417 by August 11. The expected 411–420 block may continue the current run, but its dates remain subject to Shueisha’s scheduling and Togashi’s health-conscious production arrangement. The anime is a separate matter: no continuation of the 2011 series has been officially announced.
