Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis Breakup Rumors Amid Diddy Arrest Were False, Source Said

A source cited by PEOPLE called the Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis breakup rumor “absolutely ridiculous and false.” The speculation followed Sean Combs’s arrest and the resurfacing of old footage showing Kutcher and Combs together, but the reports did not document a separation or establish criminal involvement.

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis were not reported to be breaking up in the September 2024 rumor cycle. A source cited by PEOPLE described the online speculation as “absolutely ridiculous and false.” The rumor emerged after Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested and old photographs, videos, and stories involving Kutcher and Combs resurfaced online.

The available reporting did not provide a separation announcement, divorce filing, statement from Kutcher or Kunis, or evidence that the couple’s marriage had ended. It also did not establish that Kutcher participated in, or knew about, the criminal conduct alleged against Combs.

What the rumor claimed

In late September 2024, social-media posts and entertainment coverage began linking Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis’s marriage to the renewed public scrutiny surrounding Sean “Diddy” Combs. The speculation was presented in some online discussions as though Kutcher’s past association with Combs indicated a crisis in Kutcher’s relationship with Kunis.

That conclusion was not supported by the reporting available at the time. The central report was a rumor-denial story, not an independently documented investigation into the couple’s private life. An unnamed source cited by PEOPLE called the breakup chatter “absolutely ridiculous and false,” according to coverage reproduced by AOL.

Why Ashton Kutcher was drawn into the story

The speculation followed Combs’s September 2024 arrest. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York announced on September 17, 2024 that Combs had been arrested and charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution.

The Justice Department release also stressed that the indictment contained allegations and that Combs was presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Those legal safeguards matter when discussing a story built partly on social-media associations and resurfaced entertainment footage.

After the arrest, old images and clips of Kutcher with Combs circulated again. Entertainment reports described their past contact as involving public social and business encounters, including Combs’s White Party. A resurfaced 2019 episode of Hot Ones also drew attention because Kutcher referred to “Diddy party stories.”

Those materials show that Kutcher and Combs were acquainted or had social and professional contact. They do not, by themselves, establish that Kutcher attended every event discussed online, knew about alleged crimes, participated in criminal conduct, or was implicated in the federal case. The Justice Department announcement identified Combs as the charged defendant; it did not identify Kutcher or Kunis as defendants.

What evidence supported the denial?

The most direct contemporary evidence was the source statement reported by PEOPLE: the breakup rumor was “absolutely ridiculous and false.” A second source was reported as saying that Kutcher’s connection to Combs was limited to a handful of documented social and business encounters and that Kutcher did not belong in discussions about Combs’s alleged crimes. Yahoo’s coverage summarized that context.

These statements should be described accurately: they were anonymous-source comments relayed by entertainment media, not a public joint statement from Kutcher and Kunis and not a finding by federal investigators. They support the conclusion that the viral breakup claim was denied and lacked corroborating evidence in the reporting available at that point. They do not provide personal access to every detail of the couple’s private marriage.

The reports did not cite:

  • a divorce or separation filing;
  • a public announcement that the couple had split;
  • a representative confirming a breakup;
  • a direct quote from Kutcher or Kunis announcing the end of their marriage; or
  • evidence connecting either spouse to the criminal allegations against Combs.

The absence of those items cannot prove what happens inside a private relationship. It does, however, make the online claim unsupported on the evidence presented in the September 2024 coverage.

Association is not evidence of criminal involvement

A central problem with the rumor was the leap from acquaintance to implication. Public photographs, attendance at a social event, a friendship, a business encounter, or a joking reference in an interview can establish that two people knew one another. None of those facts alone proves participation in, knowledge of, or responsibility for another person’s alleged crimes.

That distinction is especially important here because the rumor linked two separate questions:

  1. Were Kutcher and Kunis breaking up? The available reporting said no, and a source called the claim false.
  2. What did Kutcher know about or do in relation to Combs? The cited rumor reports did not establish criminal involvement, and the Justice Department announcement did not name Kutcher or Kunis as defendants.

Those questions should not be treated as interchangeable. Even if a person once attended the same public event as someone later accused of crimes, that fact does not establish either a crime or a marital breakup.

What was—and was not—confirmed

Claim What the reporting supports
Kutcher and Kunis were breaking up in September 2024. Not supported. A source cited by PEOPLE denied the rumor and called it false.
Kutcher knew Combs. Supported in the limited sense that public reports documented social, business, and entertainment connections.
Kutcher was involved in Combs’s alleged crimes. Not established by the cited reporting. The Justice Department release named Combs as the charged defendant.
Kunis personally confirmed that the breakup rumor was false. Not supported. The denial was attributed to an unnamed source, not directly to Kunis.
The couple’s private relationship was fully verified by the denial. No. The denial addressed the rumor; it was not independent knowledge of every aspect of the marriage.

Later relationship coverage

Later reports offered additional context, but they should be kept separate from the original September 2024 rumor. Us Weekly reported on March 5, 2026 that Kutcher and Kunis remained married and quoted an insider describing the relationship as “pretty solid.” In June 2026, ELLE also described the pair as married and reported Kunis discussing trust and the long familiarity at the foundation of their relationship. The available reference for the earlier coverage is Us Weekly.

Those later accounts are consistent with the 2024 denial, but they remain secondary entertainment reporting. They should not be used to claim certainty about every private event in the couple’s marriage. Relationship status can change, and current claims require current, reliable verification.

The responsible conclusion

The best-supported conclusion is narrow: the Ashton Kutcher–Mila Kunis breakup rumor circulating after Combs’s arrest was denied and was unsupported by the evidence presented in the September 2024 reports.

The rumor appears to have been fueled by the resurfacing of Kutcher’s old association with Combs, rather than by a documented separation. That association should not be inflated into evidence of criminal conduct, and the anonymous-source denial should not be overstated as a direct personal confirmation from Kutcher or Kunis.
