Fate/strange Fake does not present Snowfield’s conflict as a normal Holy Grail War with one tidy roster of seven pairs. Its central participants are called “False” because the ritual imitates a proper Grail War; the story also introduces other participants and class labels that complicate any fixed list. Here are the core False pairings, with later identity reveals clearly marked.
Why the Masters and Servants are called “False”
A conventional Holy Grail War is framed around seven Masters summoning seven Servants in the Saber, Archer, Lancer, Rider, Caster, Assassin, and Berserker classes. Snowfield’s Grail, however, is an imitation of the Fuyuki Grail, and its war is a fabricated ritual modeled on a proper one. That makes “False” a description of the conflict’s design—not a judgment about whether its participants are genuine characters or powerful Servants. The official world guide explains the imitation-war premise.

Masters receive Command Spells, marks that let them issue orders and can enhance a Servant. That basic contract-and-command relationship helps explain why the Chimera’s unusual path to becoming Lancer’s Master matters.
The core False pairings
The official character profiles establish the following central Snowfield pairings. Class labels below follow the official profiles; they should not be read as proof that the conflict always has exactly one participant in every conventional class.
#1 Best Overall
| War layer | Displayed class | Master and Servant | What makes the arrangement distinctive |
|---|---|---|---|
| False / Snowfield | Archer | Tiné Chelc and Gilgamesh | Tiné seeks to reclaim land taken from her people. Archer is identified as Gilgamesh, the King of Heroes. |
| False / Snowfield | Lancer | Silver Wolf Chimera and Enkidu | The Chimera was created as a summoning catalyst, then acquired the Command Spell and became Lancer’s Master. Lancer is identified as Enkidu, Gilgamesh’s friend. |
| False / Snowfield | Rider | Tsubaki Kuruoka and Pale Rider | Tsubaki summoned Pale Rider while she was in a coma. Pale Rider has neither a living body nor the body of a Heroic Spirit, and acts to fulfill Tsubaki’s wish. |
| False / Snowfield | Caster | Orlando Reeve and Alexandre Dumas, père | Orlando, Snowfield’s police chief, commands Clan Calatin. Dumas equips its members with Noble Phantasms rather than simply serving as a front-line combatant. |
| False / Snowfield | Berserker | Flat Escardos and Berserker | The official profile identifies Flat as Berserker’s Master and notes that his mentor, Lord El-Melloi II, tries to guide him from outside Snowfield. The Servant’s identity is a later reveal. |
| False / Snowfield | Assassin | Jester Karture and Assassin | Jester is identified as Assassin’s Master. One of his multiple lives was lost when Fake Assassin rebelled just after being summoned. |
These roles and character details come from the official character profiles. For a spoiler-light introduction, keep Berserker and Assassin at their class labels rather than supplying further identity details.

Spoilers for later character reveals and developments: the official character page identifies additional figures and labels that show why a simple False-versus-True roster can mislead.
Other class labels in Snowfield
The page identifies a Saber summoned in Snowfield as Richard I. It also labels Alcides “Avenger/True Archer” and François Prelati “True Caster.” These labels place additional participants and class developments alongside the core False pairings; they do not make the initial roster a complete account of everyone involved.
Francesca and François Prelati
The official profiles describe Francesca Prelati as a mastermind manipulating the war and François Prelati as True Caster, secretly manipulating events with his Master, Francesca. François is associated with a 15th-century French mage linked to Gilles de Rais. Those profile details establish their role in the larger scheme, but do not by themselves provide a complete explanation of their relationship.
Why a seven-pair chart is not the whole story
The seven-class template is useful for understanding the imitation’s starting point, but Fate/strange Fake layers other participants and labels over it. A character’s official display class, a revealed True Name, and a position in the False or True war are separate pieces of information. Treating them as interchangeable—or assuming each class has one permanent occupant—can turn a useful roll call into a misleading one.
The official profiles are best used for the named character descriptions and displayed labels; the world guide supplies the context that Snowfield’s ritual is fabricated. The official staff and cast page credits Ryohgo Narita with the original story: Fate/strange Fake staff and cast.
