In a post-finale interview with Parade on May 22, 2025, she described screaming and shaking in the woods, stimming on the ground, and scratching herself. She said Joe Hunter came to help, but that she had to pull herself out of the episode.
What Eva said viewers did not see
“What we saw in the episode of me having this autism episode was actually a very toned-down version of what really happened out there. It was much, much worse,” Eva told Parade’s Mike Bloom.
She said that while Kyle Fraser and Joe were shown talking, viewers could hear her screaming in the woods. Her description of the moment included shaking, stimming on the ground, and scratching herself. These details come from Eva’s account of the experience; the available interviews do not include unedited footage independently confirming what was omitted from the episode.
Eva said Joe came over to help, but could not pull her out of the episode. “And Joe comes to help me. But he can’t pull me out of this; I have to pull myself out,” she said.

How Eva described the buildup
Eva connected the episode to pressure that had accumulated over several days, rather than to simply being unable to make fire. She had been practicing for the Final Four firemaking challenge after becoming frustrated with her challenge performance. She recalled being disqualified from one challenge and thinking she would have won another if she could throw a ball straight up.
In her account, those setbacks fed a self-critical cycle. She also noted that she had built fires at home, distinguishing that skill from the pressure she was feeling on the island. The interview does not establish a clinical explanation for the episode; it reports Eva’s own understanding of the circumstances.

Why she wished more of it had aired
Eva said she was disappointed that the broadcast did not show the full intensity. She wanted autistic viewers to see her at a low point and then see her recover: “I wanted them to see at my absolute lowest, that I still was able to come back.” Her comment describes her reason for wanting the moment shown more fully, not a claim about why the episode was edited as it was.

The finale-day episode was separate from an earlier challenge incident shown in Episode 5. In a March 27, 2025 interview with TVLine, Joe said Eva had previously told him she was autistic and asked him to help if the game overwhelmed her. He recalled being unsure at first whether to step in during that challenge; host Jeff Probst later allowed him to support her.

That is Eva’s description of what helped her in that moment, not general clinical advice or a technique that should be assumed to work for everyone.
