ESPN’s direct-to-consumer service is not launching this fall. It launched in the United States on August 21, 2025, and is available as the ESPN app and service. The full-access ESPN Unlimited tier costs $29.99 per month or $299.99 per year. It can replace a live-TV subscription for an ESPN-focused household, but it does not replace every sports network, local station, or league package.
What ESPN launched
ESPN now presents its streaming service under the ESPN name, with two paid tiers. ESPN Unlimited is the cable-network replacement option; ESPN Select is the lower-cost successor to ESPN+.
The launch date was August 21, 2025. Existing ESPN+ subscriptions were moved into ESPN Select, retaining ESPN+ programming.

The important buying distinction
ESPN Select does not include the traditional ESPN television lineup. Someone choosing Select will not automatically get ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPN Deportes, or NFL Network. Those viewers need Unlimited or an eligible pay-TV package.
What ESPN Unlimited includes
ESPN lists these networks and services with Unlimited:
- ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and ESPNEWS
- ESPN Deportes
- SEC Network and ACC Network
- ESPN+
- ESPN on ABC
- ESPN3, SEC Network+, and ACCNX
- NFL Network
The subscription also includes live events, replays, studio programming, ESPN Films, 30 for 30, and other ESPN+ programming. Sports coverage can include NFL programming carried by ESPN, NBA, NHL, MLB rights held by ESPN, college football and basketball, tennis, golf, and WWE programming.
Those rights do not mean every game is available. League contracts, regional restrictions, local broadcast rules, national exclusivity, and blackouts still apply. “ESPN Unlimited” is access to ESPN’s listed services, not a universal pass to every sport.

ABC is not automatically a complete local-station replacement
ESPN includes ESPN on ABC sports presentations. That should not be read as a guarantee that the subscription supplies a viewer’s entire local ABC affiliate or all ABC entertainment and news programming. Local availability depends on rights, location, and the specific event.
Ads and simultaneous streams
Both plans carry advertising during live events and studio shows. ESPN says most content can stream on up to three devices at once, subject to current terms. Account sharing outside the household is restricted. Details are in ESPN’s subscription FAQ.
Does ESPN Unlimited let you cancel cable?
For an ESPN-centered household, it can remove the need for a live-TV package. It is less likely to replace cable or a broad streaming bundle when the household also needs channels ESPN does not own.
Unlimited may work as a stand-alone replacement when
- Most viewing is ESPN, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPN Deportes, ESPN+, or NFL Network.
- You do not need a full local-channel lineup, regional sports network, Fox Sports, NBC Sports, or CBS sports coverage.
- Your current live-TV bill is substantially higher than $29.99 and you can obtain other required channels separately or do without them.
- You value ESPN’s app features, such as personalized SportsCenter content, multiview, integrated statistics, fantasy information, betting information, and replays.
A live-TV bundle may still be the better value when
- The household needs ESPN plus Fox, NBC, CBS, local stations, or regional sports networks.
- Several people watch unrelated channels and want one guide and DVR experience.
- Buying multiple stand-alone sports services would cost more than the existing package.
Compare the complete replacement cost, not just $29.99 against a cable bill. Add any services needed for local channels, non-ESPN leagues, regional sports, or other household viewing before deciding that cord-cutting saves money.

Check whether you already receive Unlimited
ESPN continues to distribute its networks through traditional and virtual pay-TV providers. ESPN identifies Hulu + Live TV, DIRECTV, Fubo, Spectrum, Verizon FiOS, U-verse, and Cox as providers whose customers may already receive ESPN Unlimited, depending on package, region, and activation.
Sign in to the provider account and activate the ESPN entitlement before purchasing a second subscription. ESPN says the enhanced app features are available to both direct subscribers and viewers authenticated through pay-TV providers.
What happens to ESPN+ subscribers?
ESPN+ is now the content foundation of ESPN Select rather than a separate plan name customers must choose at sign-up. Existing ESPN+ subscribers were converted to Select and keep their ESPN+ content. Existing Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ bundle customers move to the corresponding Select bundle.
Keep Select if ESPN+ programming is all you need. Upgrade to Unlimited only when you require the linear ESPN networks or their associated rights.

Bundle and promotion details
ESPN documented a launch offer for a Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN bundle at $29.99 per month for the first 12 months, with ads on Disney+ and Hulu. That introductory bundle price is not the same thing as ESPN Unlimited’s regular stand-alone rate. Promotional terms and checkout prices can change, so verify the offer at ESPN’s bundle page before subscribing.

ESPN’s agreement with the NFL adds selected out-of-market NFL preseason games during the 2025 and 2026 seasons and other NFL features. NFL+ Premium can be bundled separately to provide NFL Network and NFL RedZone; the RedZone and NFL+ relationship should not be treated as automatically included in the $29.99 stand-alone plan. ESPN also says its direct-to-consumer service carries major WWE premium live events, including WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Royal Rumble, Survivor Series, and Money in the Bank, beginning in 2026. Availability remains subject to the applicable rights and service terms.
How to sign up and avoid common mistakes
- Check your cable, satellite, or live-TV account for an included ESPN Unlimited entitlement.
- If buying directly, start at ESPN’s sign-up page and confirm the tier says ESPN Unlimited.
- Use the ESPN App or ESPN.com with the account credentials; the service is delivered through the existing ESPN app experience.
- Confirm the sports and local channels your household still needs before canceling another service.
- Review the renewal price, advertising configuration, stream limits, and household terms at checkout.
Common errors include buying Select while expecting ESPN’s cable channels, assuming every ESPN event is included, overlooking an existing provider entitlement, and treating a bundle promotion as a permanent price. ESPN’s terms generally keep access active through the current billing cycle after cancellation, without refunds or credits for partially used periods.

Who should choose each option?
Choose ESPN Unlimited
Choose Unlimited when ESPN-owned networks are your priority and $29.99 covers most of what you watch. It is the direct-to-consumer alternative to paying a live-TV provider specifically for ESPN channels.
Choose ESPN Select
Select is the economical choice for ESPN+ programming when you do not need ESPN, ESPN2, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPN Deportes, or NFL Network.
Keep or compare a live-TV package
A broader package is usually more practical when your household needs ESPN alongside multiple broadcast networks, regional sports, local stations, or a large general-entertainment lineup.
