Spoilers for “The High-Handed Enemy,” episode 5 of Dune: Prophecy. Yes: Desmond Hart is Tula Harkonnen’s son. The episode reveals that Tula hid his birth from her sister Valya—and brings that secret into the present as Valya, the Emperor and Desmond collide.
The past: Tula hides her child’s identity
In the earlier timeline, Tula is pregnant by Orry Atreides. Valya sees the child as a chance to unite the Harkonnen and Atreides bloodlines, telling Tula that their son could change the universe if the sisters guide him.
After the birth, Tula conceals what happened by switching her baby with a stillborn child. The deception keeps Desmond out of Valya’s reach and sets up the family secret at the center of the episode.
The present: Valya faces Desmond’s power
In the present, Emperor Javicco asks Valya to help him deal with Desmond, whose influence and abilities have become a threat. Desmond attempts to immolate Valya, but Tula intervenes and helps her survive.

- Runtime: 390 minutes
Tula explains Desmond’s violence through a virus that feeds on fear and that he can control. That is the show’s explanation of his power, not a real-world biological claim. Desmond’s survival after an encounter with a giant sandworm is part of the series’ account of how he became extraordinary.
Valya’s arrest creates an escape opening
Valya deliberately antagonizes the Emperor and is arrested. The maneuver gives Ynez and Keiran a chance to flee. Sister Theodosia, whose shapeshifting identity has been concealed, stabs Desmond as the group escapes.

Tula tells Valya the truth about Desmond
Valya considers killing Desmond, but Tula reveals that he is her son. Tula embraces him; his guards then arrest her. The revelation explains why Tula has been protecting Desmond, but it does not end the political crisis or settle what will happen to her.

Dune: Prophecy is set roughly ten thousand years before the events of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel and follows the origins of the Sisterhood. This recap concerns the television series: its present-day storyline is original to the show, even as character histories draw on the Great Schools novels. Desmond’s parentage here should not be confused with later-season revelations, novel continuity or fan theories.
