Officially titled “Sisterhood Above All,” the 45-minute episode (listed by Apple TV for December 1, 2024) shifts between young Valya and Tula Harkonnen’s lives on Lankiveil and the Sisterhood’s present-day story. Its central tension is different for each sister: Tula fears her family name will keep her from acceptance, while Valya questions whether to take the Sisterhood vow.
What happens in Episode 3?
“Sisterhood Above All” uses the sisters’ past to give the present-day Sisterhood plot a family history. In the flashbacks, Valya and Tula are growing up on Lankiveil under the weight of the Harkonnen name. Valya sees that name as a mark of disgrace and looks to the Sisterhood as a way to change what it means. Tula’s concern is more immediate: whether the order will accept her despite her family background.
In the present-day thread, Tula’s story centers on Lila after the Agony. Recap coverage describes Tula as secretly keeping Lila alive. The episode’s official synopsis focuses more broadly on the sisters’ earlier conflict and does not provide a scene-by-scene account of this storyline.
Why is Valya struggling to take the Sisterhood vow?
Valya is not simply deciding whether she wants a place in the order. She is weighing the vow against her ambition to change the Harkonnens’ standing. Her family’s reputation shapes how she sees the Sisterhood and what she hopes to accomplish through it. That makes her hesitation a question of purpose as much as allegiance.
#1 Best Overall
- Runtime: 390 minutes
How do the flashbacks connect to the larger story?
The sisters’ childhood explains why their paths into the Sisterhood carry different stakes. Valya approaches it as a means of reshaping a family legacy; Tula is anxious about whether that legacy will bar her from belonging. The episode’s official companion podcast frames its discussion around the young sisters’ inner lives and the roots of the Atreides-Harkonnen rivalry, linking this family history to the larger conflict without making the flashbacks a complete account of that rivalry.
What is the third episode of Dune: Prophecy called?
Season 1, Episode 3 is officially titled “Sisterhood Above All.” “A Tale of Two Sisters” describes the episode’s focus, but it is not the listed episode title.

How does the episode relate to the books?
The series is based on the wider Dune universe and follows two Harkonnen sisters working to establish the sect that becomes the Bene Gesserit. Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s Sisterhood of Dune is related literary background: it is the first novel in their Great Schools of Dune prequel trilogy. It is not an episode-specific companion or a claim that this installment adapts a particular passage.
