Kendrick Lamar posted “6:16 in LA” on social media on May 3, 2024, after “Euphoria” and before Drake released “Family Matters” the same day. The track was part of a fast-moving exchange that began with Lamar rejecting the “big three” framing on “Like That” and continued through May 5. Here is the dated sequence—and what the lyrics do and do not establish.
How the 2024 exchange began
Drake and Lamar had collaborated earlier in their careers, including on Drake’s “Buried Alive Interlude” and “Poetic Justice.” Their relationship later grew tense: accounts of the feud trace an earlier turning point to Lamar’s 2013 verse on “Control.” The immediate 2024 escalation, however, followed a more specific sequence.
In October 2023, J. Cole’s “First Person Shooter” placed Cole, Drake and Lamar in a “big three.” Lamar challenged that framing in his verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That,” released March 22, 2024. J. Cole briefly responded with “7 Minute Drill” in April, then apologized and withdrew from the exchange.

| April 13, 2024 | Drake, “Push Ups” | Leaked on April 13, then was premiered by DJ Akademiks. Coverage varies on the date of its official release. | Continued Drake’s response to Lamar. |
| April 19, 2024 | Drake, “Taylor Made Freestyle” | Posted with AI-assisted Tupac and Snoop Dogg vocals; this short-lived post was later removed after a legal threat from Tupac Shakur’s estate. | Lamar released “Euphoria” on April 30. |
| April 30, 2024 | Kendrick Lamar, “Euphoria” | A diss track criticizing Drake on several fronts. | “6:16 in LA” followed on May 3. |
| May 3, 2024 | Kendrick Lamar, “6:16 in LA” | Posted on social media; the Washington Post described it as an Instagram-only single. | Drake released “Family Matters” later that day. |

| May 4, 2024 | Kendrick Lamar, “Not Like Us” | Another response in the exchange, released less than a day after “Meet the Grahams.” | Drake answered on May 5. |
| May 5, 2024 | Drake, “The Heart Part 6” | Drake denied having a secret daughter and responded to Lamar’s allegations. | It extended the exchange through May 5. |
The dated releases are documented events; accusations made within the tracks are not independently established by the fact that a song was released. The Associated Press cautions that “diss tracks between rappers often include exaggerated truths and unsubstantiated rumors for dramatic effect.” Claims about relationships, family members, or alleged leaks should therefore be understood as claims by the artists, not verified findings.
What “6:16 in LA” refers to
The Washington Post describes the title as a callback to Drake’s timestamp-and-location track naming convention. The track also targets people around Drake, including OVO, and suggests that associates may be leaking information. That suggestion is Lamar’s lyrical allegation; the reporting does not establish that an insider leak occurred.
Some listeners have proposed other meanings for “6:16,” including a connection to June 16 or other dates. Those readings appear as possible interpretations in coverage, not as a confirmed explanation from Lamar. No definitive intended meaning is established in the cited reporting.

What the timeline can—and cannot—settle
The sequence shows how quickly the exchange accelerated: “6:16 in LA” arrived between “Euphoria” and Drake’s same-day “Family Matters,” followed by Lamar’s “Meet the Grahams,” then “Not Like Us” and Drake’s “The Heart Part 6.” It does not determine the truth of the tracks’ personal allegations or establish a definitive interpretation of Lamar’s title.
