Does Wowza Streaming Cloud Support Scheduled and Continuous YouTube Streams?

Wowza Video can schedule stream starts and stops, but its documentation does not confirm an integrated YouTube workflow or continuous YouTube delivery.

Wowza Streaming Cloud—now called Wowza Video—supports scheduled starts and stops for streams, including recurring schedules. That does not by itself confirm that Wowza can schedule a YouTube event or deliver to YouTube through an integrated workflow. Check the current Wowza account and YouTube setup, then test the full signal path before relying on it for a broadcast. [Wowza documentation]

What Wowza’s scheduling does—and does not—establish

Wowza’s documentation describes schedules that can start and/or stop a live stream or transcoder once or repeatedly. A schedule can repeat on a regular basis. It also states that a scheduled stream continues until someone manually stops it or a stop schedule runs. If a broadcast should end at a particular time, plan an explicit stop rather than assuming a scheduled start will end automatically. [Wowza schedules documentation]

This confirms scheduling on the Wowza side. It does not confirm that a Wowza schedule creates or starts a YouTube event, nor does it establish a verified end-to-end YouTube workflow. Treat scheduling the Wowza stream and scheduling the YouTube event as separate questions unless the current account and official setup instructions confirm integration.

Confirm YouTube delivery before scheduling a broadcast

  1. Check destinations in your current Wowza account. Look for a YouTube destination or determine whether a custom external target can be configured. Wowza API material describes custom external destinations, but the reviewed documentation does not identify YouTube as a supported destination. Generic external-target capability is not proof of YouTube compatibility. [Wowza API documentation]
  2. Verify the YouTube-side setup. Confirm the required destination credentials or ingest details and whether the YouTube broadcast needs to be created or scheduled separately. Use current official instructions for both services; do not assume Wowza will create or schedule a YouTube event.
  3. Test the complete path before the event. Verify that the source reaches Wowza, that Wowza sends it to the intended destination, and that the YouTube event behaves as expected. Separately test the Wowza start and stop schedule.
  4. Decide what happens at the end. Set a stop schedule or otherwise plan to stop the Wowza stream. The documented behavior is that it continues until manually stopped or stopped by a schedule. [Wowza schedules documentation]

One-time schedules, recurring schedules, and continuous streams

Use case What the documentation establishes What to verify
One-time broadcast A schedule can start and/or stop a stream or transcoder once. Whether the configured destination is YouTube, and whether the YouTube event must be started or scheduled separately.
Recurring broadcast A schedule can repeat regularly. How each occurrence corresponds to a YouTube event and whether its destination and credentials remain valid.
Continuous delivery A scheduled start can leave the Wowza stream running until manually stopped or a stop schedule runs. How the source stays live, and how Wowza and YouTube handle disconnects, restarts, and scheduled stops. The reviewed sources do not settle these details.

“Continuous” therefore needs a practical definition: a Wowza stream may remain running after a scheduled start, but that alone does not prove uninterrupted delivery to YouTube. The source must remain available, the destination path must work, and the behavior during interruptions must be confirmed.

What supplies the stream to Wowza?

Wowza’s getting-started material describes sending a camera or encoder stream into Wowza Video. That is an example of a possible source, not a requirement that every broadcaster buy dedicated hardware. First check whether your existing camera, encoder, or other source can provide the input your account requires. [Wowza getting-started documentation]
