“Shark Attack! Part 2: Orca!” picks up where Doctor Odyssey’s previous episode left off: the ship is dark, shark-injured patients need urgent care, and the orcas have complicated the crew’s effort to reach shore. The wildlife encounter is only one danger. The outage, a threatened ship, and unresolved relationship tensions also shape the episode.

The survival story: surgery, orcas, and a powerless ship
Patients need care as the lights go out
The episode resumes in darkness after the Odyssey loses power. Max, Tristan, Avery, and Brooke try to stabilize shark-injured patients while the crew weighs how to get them to shore. Fangirlish’s recap describes three critical patients and an attempt to evacuate them by tender. Fangirlish recap

The tender turns back
The evacuation plan is interrupted when orcas return to the tender’s path, sending it back toward the Odyssey. The episode makes the animals part of the immediate crisis, but the ship remains in trouble independently: without power, it risks hitting a reef. Rosie works to reach the auxiliary engine room and restore power, while Captain Massey leads calmly and Spencer returns to help the crew, according to Fangirlish’s account.
Josie’s emergency procedure
Fangirlish reports that Josie needs an operation to remove a shark tooth lodged in her abdominal cavity. This is a fictional medical emergency in the episode, not guidance for treating an injury in real life.

- Christopher Eccleston's Doctor is wise and funny, cheeky and brave. An alien and a loner, his detached logic gives him a vital edge when the world's in danger. But when it comes to human relationships, he can be found wanting. That's why he needs Rose. From the moment they meet, the Doctor and Rose understand and complement each other. As they travel together through time, encountering new adversa
The result is a layered survival plot: the crew must deal with urgent treatment, disrupted evacuation, failing ship systems, and navigational danger at the same time. The orcas are a striking threat, but they are not the only one.
The relationship tensions beneath the emergency
While the crew handles the crisis, the episode also advances the tensions among Max, Avery, Tristan, and Brooke. In recap text reproduced in a Fan Forum post, Avery is frustrated by Max’s reaction to her pregnancy news. Max worries about her taking the tender, while Tristan offers practical support that makes Avery more receptive to him. Brooke notices the strain around Max and Avery. - Runtime: 325 minutes
Another review describes Avery and Tristan as moving closer, while Avery and Max’s future remains unsettled. That is a recap’s interpretation of the characters’ changing dynamic, not a definitive resolution: the episode leaves the romantic tensions in motion rather than neatly settling them.
What the episode’s orcas do—and don’t—tell viewers
The orca encounter is a fictional plot device, not evidence about real orca behavior. In ABC7’s promotional report, Captain Robert Massey actor Don Johnson described the premise this way: “On cruise ships, what people don’t realize is that you’re in their playground and they like to make themselves known, they like to let you know they’re there. And we get to find out about them in a significant way.” That is Johnson’s commentary about the episode, not a wildlife authority’s account.
