But not every view would have received an ad, and YouTube does not publish a fixed amount or percentage lost per blocked viewer. A stream’s schedule, view count, or concurrent audience cannot by itself reveal the revenue impact.
How ad blockers can affect stream revenue
For an ad to generate revenue, the stream must be eligible and monetized, YouTube must decide to serve an ad in an available slot, and the ad must reach a viewer. An ad blocker can prevent that last step. YouTube identifies browser ad-blocking software and extensions as possible reasons a viewer may not see ads (YouTube Help: Ads aren’t showing on my video).
The effect is an unrealized ad opportunity, not a standard charge for each blocked view. YouTube says live-stream ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads; its systems decide whether an available slot gets an ad (YouTube Help: Monetize your live stream). So a scheduled mid-roll, a view, and a monetized ad impression are different things.
Why 24/7 streaming does not make the loss predictable
Creators can enable pre-roll, display, and mid-roll ads on eligible live streams. YouTube says live pre-roll and display ads are automatically enabled when monetization is on; mid-rolls can be automatic, scheduled, or manual. Even with continuous streaming and ad breaks, delivery depends on YouTube’s ad decisions and the viewer’s circumstances. A 24/7 schedule does not mean every viewer sees an ad or that ads play continuously.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube’s official guidance does not give a dollar amount or percentage of revenue lost per blocked viewer. The effect varies with ad opportunities and delivery. Multiplying total views, watch time, or concurrent viewers by an assumed rate would not produce a reliable estimate.
What viewers and creators can do
For viewers
YouTube’s viewer guidance presents allowing ads and subscribing to Premium as ways to support creators. Eligible Premium viewing can contribute creator revenue separately from an ad being served to that viewer. YouTube also says continued ad blocking may result in playback being blocked; this is its current viewer-facing policy description, not a promise about creator earnings (YouTube Help: Allow ads on videos that you watch).

For creators
Do not treat ads as the only possible income from a live stream. Depending on eligibility and availability, YouTube lists ads, channel memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers as livestream earning options; eligible creators can also receive a share of YouTube Premium fees when Premium subscribers watch their content (YouTube Help: Choose how you want to monetize).
YouTube reported that creators who enabled live automatic mid-rolls saw, on average, over 20% uplift in in-stream ad revenue per hour, measured across 207 countries in January 2024. That is an observational comparison between channels with and without the feature—not a finding about ad blockers or a guaranteed result for any channel (YouTube Help: Monetize your live stream).

How to check a specific channel’s revenue
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Analytics for the channel.
- Use the Live filter to view live-stream and replay ad revenue, as described in YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance.
- Compare relevant ad revenue across comparable periods, while accounting for changes in audience and ad delivery. A change over time does not by itself prove that ad blockers caused it.
RPM is not a pure ad-blocking measure. YouTube defines it using multiple creator revenue sources, which can include ads, Premium, memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers. An RPM change alone cannot identify a change in ad delivery or its cause (YouTube Help: Understand ad revenue analytics).

If a channel runs prerecorded documentaries as a continuous YouTube live stream, the streaming setup is separate from ad delivery: keeping a stream online does not guarantee ads will serve or change YouTube’s monetization decisions. For a do-it-yourself setup, use a streaming computer or encoder that remains connected and active, and manage the stream through YouTube’s live-stream controls. This is not a method for determining ad-blocking losses; use YouTube Analytics for channel-specific revenue reporting.
