Use two separate YouTube Studio measures: the channel-level Subscribers report to see gains attributed to live content over a selected period, and an individual stream’s post-stream New Subscribers snapshot after that stream ends. The second measure counts users who subscribed during the stream; it is not necessarily the channel’s net growth. Neither measure, on its own, proves the stream caused the change.
Choose the measure that matches your question

YouTube defines stream-level New Subscribers as users who subscribed during the stream. Its definition does not specify whether unsubscribes during that period are netted against the figure. Find live-content subscriber gains in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Analytics.
- Open the Content view, then the Subscribers report. Select a date range that covers the period you want to evaluate.
- Read the Live content-type figure as subscribers gained from live streams during that period. YouTube lists subscriber gains by content type, including videos, Shorts, live streams, posts and others. YouTube Studio Help: Understand your YouTube content performance.
- Record the displayed label and exact date range. If you need a reproducible comparison, use Advanced Mode for expanded reports, comparisons and exports. YouTube Help: Get started with YouTube Analytics.
Studio’s layout and menu placement can vary. YouTube said the updated Studio experience began rolling out gradually in July 2026, so look for the equivalent Analytics and Content views if your interface differs.
Check one ended stream’s subscriber snapshot
- In YouTube Studio, open the completed live stream’s analytics or post-stream metrics.
- Find New Subscribers and record the number after the stream has ended.
- Label it as users who subscribed during that stream, and include the stream’s date or time window when reporting it.

Separate stream gains from net channel growth
If the question is whether the channel grew overall, compare its subscriber count at the start and end of a clearly stated period. Report that change separately from the stream’s New Subscribers figure or the channel’s Live content-type total. The first is channel-level net change over the chosen window; the stream metric is a count of users who subscribed during the stream. The official definition does not establish that those counts are netted against unsubscribes.
Be cautious about attribution. A channel-level change can coincide with views of other videos, Shorts, posts, promotions or other activity. YouTube’s reporting metrics describe recorded subscriber gains and performance; they do not by themselves establish that one stream caused channel growth.

Add context without treating it as proof
Subscriber counts are easier to interpret alongside exposure and viewing behavior. Where available, note these measures for the same stream or reporting window:
- Exposure: views, impressions and traffic sources, such as browse, search, suggested videos, direct or unknown, and channel pages.
- Viewing: watch time and average view duration.
- Live audience: concurrent viewers, including average and peak concurrent viewers where reported.
These figures can help explain whether a subscriber change happened alongside greater reach or engagement, but they do not prove causation. YouTube’s Content tab analytics tips for Live and audience analytics guidance describe related reports and metrics.

Make comparisons fair and reproducible
- Compare like with like: compare live streams with live streams, not with Shorts or uploaded videos whose audiences may behave differently.
- Keep the time basis consistent: use the same date-range logic and, for stream comparisons, account for differences in duration. State whether the analysis covers live activity only or also on-demand viewing when that distinction is available.
- Keep scopes distinct: label a channel-level Live total as a content-type result and a stream’s New Subscribers snapshot as an individual-stream result.
- Save the setup: preserve the report, filters and date range alongside the metric label. Advanced Mode supports comparisons and exports, but reports and interface details can vary.
