The film is a live-action reimagining of Disney’s 2002 animated movie; its U.S. theatrical release was May 23, 2025.
Who plays Lilo and Nani?
Maia Kealoha plays Lilo Pelekai, while Sydney Elizebeth Agudong plays Nani Pelekai. Disney’s D23 character guide describes Lilo as a high-energy six-year-old from Hawaii who loves hula and Elvis Presley’s music. It describes Nani as Lilo’s older sister and guardian, balancing her care for Lilo with other responsibilities. D23’s cast and character guide says Kealoha shares Lilo’s interests in hula, music and the ocean, and identifies the film as Kealoha’s onscreen debut. Agudong was born and raised on Kauai, according to the same guide.
What the trailer confirms about the film
The trailer’s release confirmed Disney’s new screen version of the story, with the cast led by Kealoha and Agudong. The studio describes the movie as a live-action story about a lonely Hawaiian girl and a fugitive alien who helps mend her broken family. Disney’s trailer page carries the line, “Ohana means family. The confirmed details establish the two sisters’ casting and the film’s premise. They do not, by themselves, establish that any particular scene or character detail differs from the animated original; claims about specific changes should be checked against the film itself.

How the new cast connects to the 2002 animated film
The 2025 film is a reimagining rather than a continuation of the 2002 animated movie. Some familiar creative and character links remain: Chris Sanders, who co-wrote and co-directed the original, voices Stitch in the new film. Tia Carrere, who voiced Nani in the original, plays Mrs. Kekoa, a new character described by D23 as a social service worker who checks in on Lilo and Nani.
Disney’s cast listings also name Billy Magnussen as Pleakley, Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles and Zach Galifianakis as Jumba. The official Disney film page lists Dean Fleischer Camp as director and gives the U.S. theatrical release date as May 23, 2025.

When did the trailer come out, and where can you watch the film?
Disney’s official YouTube channel published the trailer on March 12, 2025. It promoted the film’s May 23, 2025 U.S. theatrical opening; local release dates may differ by territory. Disney’s official YouTube trailer remains a direct source for the trailer and its publication date.
Disney+ currently lists Lilo & Stitch (2025) as streaming. Availability can vary by country, so check the Disney+ title page for your location. Disney’s cast and character explainer also identifies Kealoha as Lilo, Agudong as Nani and Sanders as Stitch’s voice.
