Disney’s 2024 Disability Access Service (DAS) changes narrowed its stated eligibility criteria at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort. Both now describe DAS as intended for guests with a developmental disability such as autism, or a similar condition, that makes an extended wait in a conventional queue difficult. A disability diagnosis by itself does not guarantee eligibility. DAS is a return-time system—not immediate entry or a way to avoid waiting altogether—and today’s registration details differ between the two resorts.
What changed with Disney DAS in 2024?
The practical change was a narrower eligibility description centered on developmental disabilities that make extended waits in conventional queues difficult, along with a process for discussing eligibility before or during a visit. The changes took effect at Walt Disney World on May 20, 2024, and at Disneyland Resort on June 18, 2024, according to ClickOrlando’s May 2024 account.
That report also described the rollout’s registration process and terms at the time. Those early details should not be treated as current instructions: Walt Disney World’s live guidance now allows registration up to 60 days before a visit and same-day video chat, while Disneyland publishes its own registration options and separate queue supports. Check the relevant resort’s current page before planning.
Who qualifies for DAS now?
Both resorts currently describe DAS in relation to a developmental disability such as autism, or a similar condition, that prevents a guest from waiting in a conventional queue for an extended period. The decision is made through a conversation with Disney; not every disabled guest qualifies, and a diagnosis alone does not establish eligibility. How Walt Disney World DAS works now
Walt Disney World’s published terms allow a guest to start the eligibility conversation by live video chat up to 60 days before a park visit, or to request a same-day video chat. The registered guest may be joined by up to three other people, for a maximum registration party of four. DAS validity is the ticket duration or up to one year, whichever is shorter. These are Walt Disney World terms; do not assume they also apply at Disneyland.
- Discuss eligibility: Use live video chat up to 60 days before the visit, or request same-day video chat, through the Walt Disney World DAS page.
- Enter a park: After park entry, the registered guest can make one active DAS return-time selection at a time in the My Disney Experience app.
- Wait for the return time: The return time is comparable to the attraction’s current standby wait. DAS does not provide immediate entry or eliminate the wait.
- Return as a party: The registered guest must attend the attraction. After redeeming a return time, a new selection may be requested 10 minutes later.
How Disneyland Resort’s process differs
Disneyland says eligibility can be discussed through live video chat or in person at an Accessibility Services window during a park visit. The Disneyland page does not establish that Walt Disney World’s party-size, validity, or return-time terms are identical, so Disneyland visitors should use its own current queue and accessibility guidance rather than carry over Walt Disney World details.

Queue supports at Disneyland that are separate from DAS
Disneyland describes several supports for particular situations. They have their own conditions and are not universal substitutes for DAS.
- Attraction Queue Re-Entry: A guest who needs to leave the queue may exit while the rest of the party waits, then return to meet them near the front with Cast Member help.
- Meet-Up: A guest waiting outside the queue may join their party later. Guests visiting alone, or with party members who cannot be left alone in line, are advised to contact Accessibility Services before the visit.
- Rider Switch: Available at most Disneyland Resort attractions for groups in which some guests wait outside while others ride. Disneyland says up to two people in the second party can ride next.
- Location Return Times: Offered at selected Disneyland Park attractions for guests using mobility devices or with physical restrictions that prevent navigating certain older queues. Disneyland says this option is not available at Disney California Adventure Park.
- “Stroller as a Wheelchair” tag: For qualifying guests who use a stroller as a mobility device or need it to carry medical equipment.
Disneyland also recommends giving guests space in queues, using mobility aids when needed, and bringing a sensory or calming item. Its queue guidance suggests items such as a stress ball, a favourite device, a tablet, a video game, or a comic book. A comfort item may help someone manage a wait; it does not affect DAS eligibility or provide queue access.

What if a guest does not qualify for DAS?
Start with the supports the relevant resort lists for the guest’s specific needs. At Disneyland, for example, queue re-entry, Meet-Up, Rider Switch, Location Return Times at selected Disneyland Park attractions, and a “Stroller as a Wheelchair” tag each address different circumstances. Ask Accessibility Services about applicable options, particularly if a guest cannot be left alone while others wait. Do not treat a paid line product as a disability accommodation or an automatic replacement for DAS.

Some disabled visitors and advocates have criticized the narrower eligibility criteria as too restrictive. The Associated Press reported on December 8, 2025, that advocates and disabled visitors were pursuing legal and shareholder efforts seeking broader eligibility or review. AP also reported Disney’s position that it offers other accommodations to visitors who do not meet DAS criteria. Those are positions in an ongoing dispute, not a final legal finding.

AP quoted professional travel adviser Shannon Bonadurer describing her family’s experience: “I would love to wait in line with everyone else, and so would my son, since that would mean he has a normal life. But we don’t, and unfortunately for us, we need adaptations to how we wait.” Her statement describes her own circumstances, not every guest’s experience.
AP also reported that Disney said in court papers that guests with DAS passes represented around 5% to 20% of guests over roughly the preceding dozen years, and that the company said the percentage showed no signs of slowing.
