Disney has brought selected Hulu programming into Disney+, and its standalone ESPN streaming service launched in 2025. But Hulu has not disappeared, and Disney had not completed its promised one-app experience as of August 18, 2026. The services remain distinct, with different catalogs, apps and subscription entitlements.
The current status at a glance
| Service or plan | Status as of August 18, 2026 |
|---|---|
| Hulu inside Disney+ | Available in the U.S. to eligible subscribers, with selected Hulu programming. |
| One fully unified Disney+/Hulu app | Still in development; Disney has not announced a public launch date. |
| ESPN direct-to-consumer service | Launched August 21, 2025, through the enhanced ESPN app, with ESPN Select and ESPN Unlimited tiers. |
These are three related but separate developments—not one completed merger. Disney’s U.S. bundle prices below were listed in its Help Center as of August 18, 2026; prices and plan names can change.
How Disney’s streaming strategy unfolded
Disney announced a planned U.S. “one-app” experience for Disney+ and Hulu in 2023. The company described a phased integration intended to make content easier to find and support engagement and advertising. At the time, it said Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ would remain available as standalone services. The announcement did not mean Hulu would immediately close or that its full catalog would move to Disney+ (Disney’s November 2023 earnings transcript; Axios, May 10, 2023).
| Date | Development | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| May 10, 2023 | Disney announced plans for a Hulu/Disney+ one-app experience. | The beginning of an integration strategy, not an immediate shutdown of Hulu. |
| November 8, 2023 | Disney discussed Hulu integration and future ESPN direct-to-consumer plans. | The plans were part of a broader streaming strategy. |
| March 27, 2024 | Hulu on Disney+ launched in the U.S. | Eligible subscribers gained access to selected Hulu programming inside Disney+. |
| May 13, 2025 | Disney announced that its new ESPN direct-to-consumer service would be branded ESPN. | The product would be distinct from the old assumption of an “ESPN+ 2” service. |
| August 21, 2025 | The ESPN direct-to-consumer service launched. | ESPN Select and ESPN Unlimited became available through the enhanced ESPN app. |
| February 2, 2026 | Disney said it was still working on the technology for a one-app experience. | Full Disney+/Hulu unification remained unfinished, with no public launch date established. |
| April 7, 2026 | ESPN expanded selected programming within Disney+ internationally. | Disney+ is also serving as a distribution hub in some markets; availability depends on market and rights. |

What Hulu on Disney+ includes—and what it doesn’t
The Hulu hub became available in Disney+ in the U.S. on March 27, 2024, for Disney Bundle subscribers and people with qualifying Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions. It lets eligible viewers browse and watch selected Hulu programming without leaving Disney+. Disney described the launch as an integration of the viewing experience, not the end of the separate Hulu service (launch announcement; Hulu on Disney+ information).
- Hulu brand: Still active.
- Hulu subscription: Still offered on its own and in bundles.
- Hulu app: Still needed for additional programming and certain features not available in Disney+.
- Hulu hub in Disney+: Available to eligible U.S. subscribers, but it is not the entire Hulu service.
- Full technical unification: Still in development as of February 2, 2026.
Disney’s help materials continue to describe Hulu as a separate service and say additional Hulu content remains available only through the Hulu app (Disney+ plan information; Hulu corporate information). Disney completed full ownership of Hulu in 2025, but ownership did not itself merge the apps or subscriptions (Associated Press coverage).
Hulu availability and bundle arrangements described here are U.S.-specific. Hulu as a product and Disney’s bundle structure do not apply globally in the same way.

How ESPN Select and ESPN Unlimited differ
Disney launched its direct-to-consumer ESPN service on August 21, 2025. It is branded ESPN and accessed through an enhanced ESPN app. The two principal tiers are not interchangeable: Select provides the lower-access offering, while Unlimited includes a broader set of ESPN’s networks and services (ESPN launch details).
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsESPN Select
Select is the lower-cost tier and the successor-level offering for ESPN+ access, with selected ESPN programming. It may fit viewers who want ESPN+ sports, niche events, original programming or on-demand content without needing the full set of traditional ESPN networks. It does not include the full network access offered by Unlimited.
ESPN Unlimited
Disney says Unlimited includes ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPNEWS, ESPN Deportes, ESPN on ABC, ESPN+, ESPN3, SEC Network+ and ACCNX. Disney describes it as offering more than 47,000 live events per year, along with on-demand replays, studio shows, original programming and related content. The event count is Disney’s description, not a guarantee that every event is available in every location or without restrictions. Location, rights and blackout rules can affect access (Disney’s service announcement; Disney’s live sports help page).

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Unlimited can meet some households’ sports-TV needs, but it is not automatically a full live-TV replacement. It does not guarantee every local broadcast station, regional sports network or event subject to a blackout. Live programming can include advertising, and Unlimited remains ad-supported even when paired with premium Disney+ and Hulu tiers.
Watching ESPN in Disney+
Disney+ subscribers with qualifying ESPN Select, ESPN Unlimited or bundle access can watch available ESPN programming through Disney+. A Disney+ subscription by itself provides only a limited sample; the ESPN app remains an important destination for the full service and sports-specific features (Disney+ ESPN access information; live sports details).
Current U.S. bundle prices
The following monthly prices were listed by Disney’s U.S. Help Center and checked August 18, 2026. Disney warns that billing arrangements and access are divided across the individual services even when they are bundled. Third-party billing can affect the price or how a customer manages a plan (Disney’s U.S. price list; bundle signup details).

| If you want… | Consider… | Trade-off to check |
|---|---|---|
| Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and Hulu entertainment, with little need for live sports | Disney+, Hulu Bundle | Selected Hulu programming appears in Disney+; additional Hulu content and features may still require Hulu. |
| ESPN+ programming, niche sports and selected ESPN content | ESPN Select Bundle | It does not provide the full traditional ESPN network lineup included with Unlimited. |
| The broadest ESPN network access, including college sports networks | ESPN Unlimited Bundle | Blackouts, local channels and regional sports rights may still require another service. |
| A replacement for cable with local channels, a wider channel lineup or DVR features | Compare Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, YouTube TV or Sling by market and package | These live-TV needs are separate from the Disney+/Hulu entertainment bundle and ESPN Unlimited. |
| A mix of Disney/Hulu entertainment and sports in a household | Compare the Select and Unlimited bundles against the networks and events each person actually watches | Calculate against your current subscriptions and account for ads, missing channels and any existing promotions. |
A bundle is worthwhile only if its included services match what you watch. Compare the cost of the bundle with the actual standalone subscriptions you would keep, rather than assuming a bundle always saves money.
Hulu + Live TV is a separate decision
Hulu + Live TV is not the same product as Hulu’s on-demand library, and an ordinary Disney+/Hulu bundle does not automatically include it. Disney agreed in 2025 to combine Hulu + Live TV with Fubo’s virtual multichannel business; the announced arrangement said Hulu + Live TV would continue operating through the Hulu app and remain part of entertainment bundles (transaction announcement; business-combination details).
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Before treating any streaming plan as a cable substitute, compare local broadcast channels, regional sports coverage, channel lineup, DVR functions and household access. ESPN Unlimited supplies a broad ESPN offering, not every function or channel of a live-TV package.
What existing subscribers should check before switching
There is no single migration process that applies to every customer. How a change works can depend on the billing provider, plan type, annual commitment and whether a plan is grandfathered. Disney says eligible subscribers may move to bundles and may receive prorated credits or billing adjustments; some customers billed through third parties may need to sign up directly through Disney (existing subscriber guidance; subscription management guidance).
Quick Recap
- Find the billing provider. Check whether Disney, Hulu, ESPN, Apple, Roku, a cable provider or another company charges you.
- Compare the actual plans. Add up the services you currently pay for, then confirm the bundle includes the ESPN tier and ad levels you want.
- Check annual-plan value before canceling. Review Disney’s credit or billing-adjustment rules before ending an annual subscription.
- Use the same email when combining eligible accounts. This can help match subscriptions, but does not guarantee every account or entitlement will combine automatically.
- Confirm where the content is available. Check whether a Hulu title or ESPN feature is in Disney+ or still requires the Hulu or ESPN app.
What Disney has not established
- A launch date for full one-app unification: Disney said on February 2, 2026, that it was still working on the technology; the official statement does not set a public date (earnings transcript).
- A universal account migration: Billing and plan changes vary by provider and subscription type.
- That every Hulu title will be in Disney+: Disney says additional Hulu content remains available only in Hulu.
- That ESPN Unlimited replaces all live-TV functions: Local channels, regional sports and blackout-restricted events are not guaranteed.
