No report confirms that Queen Camilla verbally told Kate Middleton to move. Coverage of the September 17, 2025 state-visit welcome at Windsor Castle describes a brief hand gesture, after which Catherine, Princess of Wales, moved toward Prince William. Some viewers read the gesture as dismissive; others thought Camilla was signaling as horse-drawn carriages approached.
What happened at Windsor Castle
On September 17, 2025, Donald and Melania Trump arrived at Windsor Castle for an official state visit to the UK. Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales—widely known as Kate Middleton—welcomed them and took them to meet King Charles III and Queen Camilla outside Victoria House.
As the men spoke, Camilla and Melania began talking, and Catherine joined them. Reports describe Camilla looking around and making a brief sweeping gesture with her hand. Catherine then moved back toward William as the group prepared to continue and horse-drawn carriages came into view. MTV Lebanon described Camilla as “seemingly” motioning for Catherine to move along, rather than reporting a confirmed spoken instruction (MTV Lebanon).
Did Camilla actually say “move”?
The available accounts describe a gesture, not a recorded or confirmed verbal order. Us Weekly framed “move” as a claim made by royal watchers and reported that some viewers interpreted the motion differently: as a signal to clear space because the carriages were arriving. The horses enter the scene later in the clip described by the outlet (Us Weekly).

There is no reported explanation from Camilla, Catherine, or Melania establishing what the gesture meant. Us Weekly said it had sought comment from the royal family. Without a confirmed statement or clear evidence of spoken words, saying Camilla “told Kate to move” goes beyond what the coverage establishes.
Why some viewers thought the gesture was dismissive
Body-language expert Judi James offered one interpretation to Marie Claire, describing Camilla’s action as “pulling rank” and as appearing to shoo Catherine away. James said: “Kate’s energy and her enthusiastic gesticulation seemed to tune with Melania, who turned her head away from Camilla to talk, using some subtly mirrored responses as she did so,” then added: “When she turned back to warn Kate, she seemed to break up a good conversation, and the problem came with her quick flapping of her hand that appeared to shoo Kate away” (Marie Claire).

That is James’s reading of the visible interaction, not confirmation of Camilla’s private feelings or purpose. The carriage-related explanation is another interpretation reported in the coverage, and the available accounts do not resolve the ambiguity.
