What is different about the 2026 edition?
The first live Central Time countdown
Chicago is more than an additional performance site. Chance the Rapper will lead what ABC describes as the show’s first live Central Time Zone countdown. That gives the special a new synchronized moment before the Times Square celebration reaches midnight in New York.
The longest telecast in the show’s history
ABC describes this edition as the program’s longest telecast, with an additional 90 minutes and more than 85 songs. The extra length supports the multi-city format and allows the broadcast to move among celebrations in different time zones rather than relying only on the traditional New York sequence.
A broader national and international-style presentation
The announced format covers New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, and Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rico segment is expected to provide Spanish-language Atlantic Time Zone coverage, although the initial official announcements said more details were forthcoming. It is therefore too early to state the Puerto Rico host, exact venue, or complete performance schedule as settled facts.
